Default Locker front or rear?

What would be the best way to go, a locker in the front or rear first? I'm thinking the front first, because of the limitd slip in the rear already. I can only afford 1 axle now but will be going to lockers front and rear eventually. Just trying to see what would be more beneificial in the beginning. Thanks

I am in the same boat. I am going with front lockers. I have plenty of footage of my wheel spin while off roading. The limited slip is working well even if one wheel is in the air. The BLD combined with the limited slip does a great job. I have played back my video to look at the slip and its minimal in the back. The front is the weak point. I am debating between two lockers. The aussie locker (cheap and great reveiws), or the ECTED electric locker. While this one can slip under exteme load, I rather it slip then my axle breaking. Seems like a good compromise if you have a Dana 30 in the front.

Rear first.

You'll find that with the Rubicon, and even with the way the ARB locker kit works, the rear is always locked first, then the front.

When I built my YJ, with F/R Dana 44s, and ARBs, it became clear to me why they didn't sell the locker switch to allow the front first.. steering would be a nightmare, and it's a matter of safety as well. If you have the locker engaged, and try to run it on the road, you'll risk crashing because of restricted / reduced steering.

I want to know which to buy first, not to engage first. Sorry for the confusion. The front locker will only be engaged while in 4wd and off road, never on the road (possibility of breaking axle shafts). The question is which axle to buy a locker for first. thanks

Default Which came first???? CHICKEN OR EGG

Well this question is almost as old as the "chicken or the Egg first" .....With one exception Your question is ALL opinion and speculation!!!

And since opinions are like __sses ( every one has one and they all stink) HA HA HA HA

Here is mine .........Since you have a limited slip (rear) and can't afford both ....there is only so far you can (push) yourself up a climb before you will need to ( pull ) with the front

Your "traction money" would probably be best spent on the front........

and I have READ some pretty bad reviews on the ECTED being "alot of small pieces that have a tendency to break VERY easy".....

I agree. I used to believe that a rear locker would be more beneficial when using just one, but with the longer wheelbase of the Unlimited I have changed my mind. And yes, I have run Jeeps both ways before...

I can't see how the Aussie in the front wouldn't have a negative effect on your steering. So far I am very impressed with the LSD/BLD in the rear so I'm definitely going with the front locker first. I may never get a rear one. But, the locker I get for the front is going to be totally selectable. Right now I'm between the OX Trax Locker for my Dana 30, or replacing the 30 with a Rubi 44 with electric lockers. Same price after I figure in labor.
