Looking down on stock jeepers?
Serious questions here...Why do stock jeepers get snickered at by modders?
Sure modding can be fun; I'm no pagan god of jeeping but I've done plenty of wrenching on them, having been through 6 jeeps since I was a kid (2 CJs, 2 TJs and now 2 JKs), including a heavily modded CJ-5 runing 35"s (and feeling like I was gonna die every time I drove it on the freeway!) but now that I finally have a Rubi, I'm having a hard time justifying any mods. In fact, I'm getting rid of stuff... just pulled the carpet out permanently and I'm trying to decide if I should get rid of some plastic too.
I've lost interest in doing hardcore trails just for bragging rights, sh!ts and giggles and am know more interested in exploring, camping and overlanding, preferably without breaking anything. We've already given the rubi her first scratches and are going out again this weekend. Sure it's early but she's never been in a mall parking lot, so this jeep is doing what it's designed for and so far it's really impressing the hell out me, considering I just drove it off a dealer's lot.
But my friends with lifts are already razzing me for telling them I wasn't going to do anything else to it. In the past I got snickered at in Moab when I was tooling around the area's trails in a mostly stock 4 banger TJ with 31"s. Sure I wasn't running Pritchett Canyon and taking bypasses for tough obstacles but isn't the point of wheeling to get out into the bush and have fun?
Jeeps can be pretty cool without mods, and stock rides can be (and are) run by 100% jeep fanatics too. Just Sayin' !

There are people who hate folks who own JKs, folks who don't mod their JKs, folks who mod but don't wheel, folks who wheel what others consider crazy, and on and on. Ignore them all. Find those with whom you get along and enjoy their company. Don't worry about what the idiots of the world think about you. Their opinion matters not one bit.
I wouldn't worry about it either I bought my 09 X new 5 years ago and have built it up my way spending thousands and thousands on it (which reminds me I really have to update my mods in my profile).
I've done a lot of wheeling since and just came back from Moab doing some crazy sh*t there too including High Dive, Potato Salad Hill and BFE area etc etc
I turned 47 today hopefully my jeep lasts another 5-7 years. I told my friends after "BIG BEN" dies(my jeeps name) I'm going to buy a Rubi and maybe put on a 2" lift and some 35's tops (no more 37's) and that's it. They all laughed at me saying yeah sure Rob. But it's true I'll be in my 50's would have done a lot by then and I know a smaller set up with a Rubi will be more then capable of doing anything I'll try when that time comes. I could even see stock tires(or 33's) with chopped fenders no lift for me on a future Rubi.

Dont worry about, i run stock too and i think many of the people that mod them don't need to and end up wasting money. Either they mod for looks only and don't offroad, or they do offroad but could have done what they do stock.
These jks are so capable in stock form that you really don't need to lift them, etc... Unless hardcore wheeling.
If you friends bother you about it, you could just remind them how much u saved.

Harley Davidson people are the same way. It's just stupid human nature. I think it's a way for the modders to justify what they have done by knocking stock Jeeps or Harleys for that matter. It's also another reason why the Jeep wave isn't a standard for most Jeep owners.
Don't sweat it, do what works for you. I am about the same age as you. My next Jeep will be a Rubi, kept stock.

Jeeps are different things to different people. I love all Jeeps for whatever purpose they serve their owner.
My JK's purpose is to give me something to mod when I feel like I'm ready to snap
You'll never see a Wrangler or Harley Davidson parked outside of a phsychiatrist's office

I've never been talked down for driving a stock JK Rubicon. Typically it has being talked up for how capable they are right off the lot. Really the only thing I can't follow through is a mud pit or a slush pit because I just bottom out. Of course Canadians are inherently nicer off the bat, but there are only a few more things a built Jeep can do.
I'll never look down on a stock Jeeper. We're all part of the same clan.
Those that do-- well, I guess everyone has to have a hobby, even if it's being an ***hole.
Build and wheel according to need and ability. Build is not always indicative of true Jeeper status.
