Default Lug nuts.

So a lot of wheel companies say that your factory lug nuts can't be used with your aftermarket wheels. Is this true???

And, if I were to go from factory 16" steel wheels to 17" sahara aluminum wheels, would I be able to use my factory lug nuts, or do I have to give my good ole' parts guy a call???

I did not reuse stock lugs when I switched to my ProComp wheels. I use spline drive lugs which are narrower than stock, which fit better. Added security benefit in the fact that unless they have the correct spline drive socket then would be thieves can't steal my wheels. Plus they look better than stock too.

The biggest problem with stock vs. aftermarket lug nuts is whether or not the lugs are recessed into the new wheels or not. If the lugs protrude from the wheels then the stock nuts will work. If lugs are recessed then chances are good you'll need different nuts.

Anyone know if the stock steel wheel lug nuts are the same as the Rubicon wheel lug nuts? I plan on getting a set of steel wheels for different tires...can I use the same lug nuts?

Thanks!
