Haha, then your commute will take longer. Your time has an intrinsic value. So take the money you save in gas by driving slower, then subtract the value of your extra time spent commuting. Quick math. 100 miles going 70mph or 60mph the difference is about 15 minutes. If at 70 you get 15 mpg and at 60 you get 17 mpg, the difference in your 100 mile trip is about 0.784 gallons, or $2.35 if gas is $3 per gallon. So, you save $2.35 and you spent 15 extra minutes in your Jeep. Therefore you are worth about $9.40 per hour.
Now that you read this, drive it like you stole it. It's not worth the extra commuting time.

I don't think I can drive 60....I set the cruise today on the way home while on the highway. Got honked at a lot and flipped off once. And it was SOOO slow lol.

And I definitely worth more than $9.40/hr

 

Get yourself a 2008 KLR 650.. 50 mpg... they are cheap to purchase and cheap to maintain....

I was going to say get yourself a new wife, but I stopped myself before I wrote it, or maybe not.

 

So....I decided to save the miles and got a cheap commuter car. I follow samcrac on YouTube and was looking more in salvage cars and decided to give it a try. Bought a 2000 Volvo s40 that had been rear ended. Doing all the repairs myself, I should have under a $1000 into it. Even if I only get a year out of the car it'll save over 18,000 miles worth of wear and tear on the Jeep. So at 60¢ a mile for wear and tear according to AAA, that over $10,000 in savings.

 

There's a lot to be said about this simple idea.....salvage cars are usually very mechanically sound vehicles. They aren't things people wanted to get rid of because they were mechanical nightmares....like most very inexpensive used cars. I'll definitely buy another salvaged title on the cheap. Every mile on that thing is a mile NOT on the jeep!
