Jeep made a mistake with the gearing in the JK. I've done some long trips (750+ miles) in my Jeep and get better mpg running with O/D off every time.

The 3.8 is just too in-efficient lugging along at 1500rpm. Thats just way to far below the powerband.

RPM doesn't kill the mileage like so many people think it does.

Same thing goes for why there is no gas guzzling Hemi option for the Wrangler, or so I'm told by an industry guy I'm aquainted with here in Omaha.

Dead on my friend. it is better to run with revs and a light foot then to the floor while lugging along @ lower rpm's. Rmp's do not consume fuel SUPPLY does. Supply = right foot on the loud pedal.
