MOPAR Ski Rack Problem
So the GF and I (and her two kids) are going to Killington tomorrow to ski for a few days and I finally get around to putting the MOPAR ski rack on tonight. It's goes on over the spare tire so I pull that off, put the mounting bracket on and replace the spare tire.
What's the problem? The new wheels and tires I just put on all around are just a bit too wide and, while the bolt that holds the ski rack onto the mounting plate is long enough to screw in part way, the square bracket around the bolt doesn't meet the bracket on the mounting plate leaving the bolt exposed with no support (and not screwed in all the way). It's just too risky to carry four sets of skis without the rack properly installed.
The worst news of all is that the stock wheels are at the shop getting powder coated so I can't swap the new spare out with the stock wheel. Frankly, I don't really want to do that anyway because the new wheels and tires are for winter driving and the stock wheels and MTs are for summer, but I suppose I could swap out the tires (which does me no good tonight).
Here's my question. Are there any good ski racks out there that will handle four sets of skis and fit a wider tire/wheel (or mount in the hitch)? I haven't really looked yet since I just got done wrestling with this issue.
The good news is that I can still return the ski rack if I find a better one.
P.S. The Gf is a bit annoyed because I told her we're taking her X5 since the Rubi won't fit both the skis and all our other stuff in the back.

And I just got the Thule 964 Bike rack for Xmas!

Damn that's a sweet solution and cheaper than the MOPAR ski rack.

How do you mean cheaper? With the Thule, can you use the 987 XT by itself? Or do you have to have a Thule bike rack?
I'm looking at getting a ski rack... but don't need a bike rack. the Mopar by itself is less than the 2 Thule I'd have to buy.
I guess I'm hoping you can tell me i can use the 987 XT by itself.
thanks
