Default mpg indicator screwed up?

the other day I put the mpg indicator on instead of the compass/temp display we usualy use; I do that to play a game called "try and get better fuel mileage". But this time it was stuck at 16.6L/100km, so I reset it (shouldnt have), and it was then up at 20+L/100km, which I knew was faulse. Then today it was at over 37L/100km!!! that's like 5mpg... Does anybody know why the mpg indicator is screwing up?

It takes time to calculate more precise numbers. Give it a few days if you want to go by that.

In reality though, all the calculators do is calculate airflow into the engine, and use algorithms to ESTIMATE what your fuel mileage is.

If you REALLY want to know your mileage, do it the more efficient old fashioned way: Comparing how many miles you drove to how much fuel you used. But again, you're driving a brick. I wouldn't be concerned about fuel economy

ya I know fuel economy isnt a concern when you drive a vehicle like this. I just like to see how good/bad it is on fuel at times. The best I noticed was 14L/100km (city; I havnt used the mpg indicator on the hwy yet), and I like to try and beat that. just for kicks...
