This is a job for an experienced mechanic. If you're not experienced at gear installs, and don't have someone to help who is, you'd probably be better to take it to a 4WD shop.

6-speed with 33-35 inch tires? 4.88s are the perfect ratio. The OP made the perfect selection IMO.

Smart idea, I will backyard mechanic most things on the Jeep, but the thought of going down a highway and hearing the sound of the diff destroying itself scares the crap out of me. I will end up paying Dave at Northridge a visit in a few months. I am still trying to decide between the 4.56 or 4.88's though....

Default update

Well my 4.88 go in wed and Im a wreck! Feels like Im going in for surgery. Not many choices for install, the only good shop wants $1050 for labor. I know that is alot, but have no choice. I dont want to go with a fly by night mechanic.

Do you all think Im spending to much or is that about right? Could get it done for $800 but did not feel good about the shop.

Cant wait to drive with the 4.88s. I hope I like them.

Default Finally Installed

well my 4.88s are installed. No noise out of the G2 gears at all. I want to thank this forum and the members on it for helping me make a decision. The 488s are awesome.

I cannot believe I drove my jeep for 3 years with 321s....what an idiot!

My opinion:
1. 456s would have been perfect with 33s.
2. 488s are great and I have no complaints at all.
3. I think 513s would have been to low of a gear for me.
4. 321 are a piece of crap and are in the garbage can.

I can actually drive my jeep again and use all 6 gears. Feels like I got a brand new jeep.
By the way tuned, adjusted speedo and gears with superchips.

Thanks again for all your input, the gears were a giant leap forward.
