Default My experience with the IPF headlight conversion

Sorry no pictures, if you do a search you will find plenty of before/after.

With the factory headlights, I was like this

Then I finally got the IPF headlights. I first used the blue IPF bulbs that came with it. Then I was like Cyclops. I could tell there was more light then factory, but it was all blue, and it didn't help with the snow on the ground.

So I adjusted my headlights down a little, still didn't help since they were emitting blue light.

So I picked up a set of Sylvania Xtra Vision bulbs today. The Xtra Vision slot in between the regular replacement bulbs and the Silverstars. They aren't as bright as Silverstars but brighter and whiter then regular. Plus, no blue tint. So I felt like

I drove around tonight with the Xtra Vision bulbs and didn't get flashed once.

For those that are still on the line about upgrading your headlights, do it! It's worth the money! I can finally see the road and street signs. Now I actually feel safe driving at night.

Do you have a link to the Silverstars that will fit the IPFs?

The IPF's use a standard H4 bulb. You can get H4's at autozone, wal-mart, pepboys etc. I got my Xtra Visions from wal-mart.

I never even bothered with the blue bulbs. I bought the cheapest bulbs that Sylvania makes ($20 a pair) and there was a dramatic improvement over stock. A couple months back I ran side-by-side with Interceptor_1972 who has the IPF blue bulbs, and while it was obvious the light was whiter from his Jeep, it was also obvious that it was easier to see the highway with my lights. You do not get $40-80 worth of improvement from the more expensive bulbs, IMHO. And the cheap bulbs match the stock fog lamps in color temp. I wish David/IPF would sell these without bulbs and just let us pick up our own.

When I used the IPF blue bulbs, I could hardly see anything with them. The Sylvania's improved that a 1000x. When looking at the headlight, they seemed bright. But when looking at the road from the cabin, I was not impressed with them. I know Northridge now has the option of going with either the blue or white bulbs.

Here's Sylvania's light output chart

I don't know how close IPF blue bulbs are to Sylvania Cool Blue, but to me they were nowhere close to each other in the light output.

So it looks like the Silverstar Ultra H4s are the ones to go with?

How much for a set of IPF head lights? Do they plug in or do you have to cut wires? Defiantly got me thing!

I'm still using the original bulbs. Low beam is not that bad to me. However, high beams suck.

Northridge4x4 sells them....I got the first shipment this spring/summer and I recall paying $150 for the set. But call David for pricing. Just remove your grill, pop out the old head lights and unplug the old bulbs...plug in in IPF bulbs and screw in headlights and repeat on the other side (no cutting). Very easy and one of the best investments as the stock lights SUCK!

No issues with my blue bulbs and are very bright IMHO.
