My Jeep Caught on Fire Today
I was just driving down the interstate and my stereo shut off. Then the check engine light came on. I went to hit the brakes to pull over and there weren't any. Finally got it slowed down and there was smoke pouring out from under the hood. I grabbed my fire extinguisher and jumped out. Opened the hood and the fire was just behind the intake up against the fire wall. Got that put out and realized the brake controller for the abs that's on the drivers side was smoking like crazy. I ended up pulling the negative batter cable off and that made that quit smoking. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening before. It took me by surprise. My Jeep is a 6-speed Rubicon w/ 23,xxx miles on it. Thanks, Nick
Sorry to hear about this :/ how much damage? Pictures ? What year ? I know there is a recall on my 2010 on the transmission cooling lines, and I've heard from this forum if they leak it can spark a fire if it gets on anything hot . . . Hope someone chimes in with more information then I can provide !

I hope you have insurance or some type of coverage. I can only imagine the smile on the dealers face when you say fix all this melted electrical $hit.... Cha Ching. $80.00 an hour for "electrical" work. I hope you get taken care of. Sorry for your troubles and good luck.
Have not read anything like that happening in my time on this forum. If there were no combustable fluid leaks back there, it was caused by an electrical short circuit?
Maybe something to do with the brake system controller?
Had you added any wiring through those bundles of wires, like for lights, trailer brake controller, compressor, etc? Anything that could cause chaffing or a short?
Good thing you had fire supression handy.

Very glad I had a fire extinguisher. It would have burned up.
