Default My Jeep is "shocking"!

So I don't know if anyone has had this happen to them, but for the past...2-3months, I've been getting all sorts of static electric-type shocks coming from the Jeep whenever I drive it for any distance (short, long doesn't matter) and usually it happens when I touch the body panelling (metal) but also sometimes when I touch other passengers in the vehicle! And it's not just me, I happens to pretty well everybody who gets out of it after driving...Does anyone have this happen to them or does my Jeep qualify as the first electric Jeep!?!?

I enjoy a good poke now and then but that's usually from my wife not the Jeep!

I do too, but it depends on what I am wearing. A sweatshirt or hoodie gets me shocked every time, but a leather or jean jacket doesn't... guess it is the seat material.

hmmm that link is interesting...i might mention it to the dealership next time I'm through or maybe spray the fabric with something...but man, its a pain in the a$$ to say the least...nothing like closing your door to a giant shock!! And good (and bad) to see that I'm not the only one whose Jeep is acting up...

I was just going to post something today about this too. My jeep shocks me every time i get out and some times it really hurt and i can see a spark. How can I be sure that this is from a static build up and not some sort of short in the circuit or something like that?

That was the other thing I was thinking, and thats not fun when you get hit with a big one...painful...hopefully it's nothing serious with any of us and just cheap fabric!

Don't worry about it. It'll prevent a heart attack!

Mine does it too (much moreso in the winter time when it's drier). My trick is to touch the metal on the door before touching the ground, and then stepping out. Maybe it's touching the metal after the first foot is on the ground. I learned this lesson from a prior car I had. Any time of year it would shock you when you got out (it was a Chevy Beretta). Winters were especially bad though as you could see (in daytime) and hear the shock everytime. People parked next to me would comment on the noise. Very painful to say the least.
