need to get paint off my JK
You know that yellow paint they stripe the center line of the highway with. Some flew up on the rails and doors of the Jeep. What is the best thing to use to remove it without damaging the paint on the Jeep?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Goof-Off might work. I would try some in an out of the way place to be sure it doesn't harm the Jeep's paint. I've had good luck with this stuff taking tar and pine sap off vehicles. You can buy it in a hardware store or even a Walmart.
If it's kinda like just splashed on there...or sorta like over spray, gasoline will work. Keep in mind to have sopa and water nearby because you don't want it on any longer than necessary. Gas is strong enough to remove paint from unprepared surfaces, but not so strong that it will damage your paint.
If you want a real clay bar...er the original one and only clay bar from a company that has sued anyone who got close into submission this is the best there is:
http://www.claymagic.net/ I'd recommend the red bar and you don't need the lube...water with a little soap for lubrication purposes is all you need.
If this doesn't work a mineral spirits based wax and grease remover would probably work but might be a bit expensive because its generally sold in gallons unless you find a no-name low-Q brand like 5-star or Keystone.
That said stand alone mineral spirits would do just as well for this application.

Log the incident with the local authorities, receive a quote from a detail professional, photograph and file a claim. Believe it or not, the painting company may reimburse you for the proper removal. Be careful because that paint may contain specs of anti-skid/reflective material which may cause further damage to the paint. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to my Jeep. The guy at the paint store recommended Oops. Took it right off the painted surfaces but took a little rubbing on the flares and rails because of the texture. Works like a charm.
My father-in-law owns a body shop....when this happened to my Dodge Magnum R/T....he told me:
1) Grab some VARSOL and rub off the splattered paint with a soft cloth.
2) Rinse the area with Soap & water...then dry
3) Grab a clay bar and work any other contaminants out
4) Clean area and wax.
Worked like a charm.

Get a good quality clay car and a big bottle of the Meguiar's quick detailer, and go to work. All you have to do it spray the QD for lubricant and rub the clay on it. When it starts to stick a bit, put more lubricant on. Keep going until the paint is smooth to the touch.
