Default Need Help X or Rubi

Ok, I can't stand it any longer and I'm about to pull the trigger on another JK. I'm getting a 2 door this time, even though I have two kids now, but I'm trying to decide whether to get an X (S package) or a Rubicon. I want Deep Water blue and the closest X to trade is 3.5 hours away or I can get a Rubi right up the road. Any suggestions and why? I want another Rubi since that what I had, but do I really NEED one is what I'm asking myself.

Either way, that Northridge lift giveaway would be perfect timing!! Hint! Hint!

This is NOT a which is better. I DO NOT want those responses. That has been tackled many, many times. I have no interest in starting that debate. This is merely a "if you could get either, which one would you buy and why"?

What's the premium for the Rubicon? What sort of trail driving do you do if any? Those two questions, answered after a little honest reflection, are all you need to consider. Personally, I like the money I had left over to mod in buying an X. I followed two Rubicons everywhere they went in Colorado a couple weeks ago and did so with relative ease.

Thanks, good honest answer without bashing either. I enjoyed my previous Rubicon and now a few of my friends have gotten out of riding, so I have fewer people to go with, but, like my previous one, I plan on using it like it was made to be used. Were taking about a $6k difference, which is big, but the $ per month, not so much and I'm not going to be able to mod either one per the better half.

I would look at the price difference and see what your end goal is. If you don't want to do many mods go with the Rubicon. If you want to re do everything go with the X.

Well, I'm not looking to put 60's under it....ever or I would definatly start with an X. I'm just looking at a lift and 35's eventually.

Go with the X.

And save the difference for the mods you know you will eventually talk your better half into.

If you plan on 35" tires, and don't want to do muchfor mods go with the Rubicon. You will get the extras that help you offroad now, and all it would really need is a lift and tires. Also the 4.10 gears can really make a difference compared to the 3.73 once you start adding tires if you don't want to regear.

It will be modded, Rubi or not. Not concerned about the dollar differcence in that regard. If I could take the $6k and mod the X right off, then I would get the X for sure, but that's not the case so I will not have any mod money at first for either, until I can talk her into that. Besides, it took me all of like 5 minutes to explain why I needed another $30K Rubicon and get her approval.

If you buy the X and take the 6k savings to mod it, you will end up with the rubi anyway... ie... dana 44 front, gears, lift, tires, lockers, discos.... you will eat up the 6 large pretty fast, and you still wont have the 4:1 transfer case...
I would buy the Rubi upfront, put a 2.5"-3" lift and 35's and be done with it for now...
Just my $.02.....
