Default New law in TX as of Sept 1, front plate required

I heard that as of Sept 1 Texas requires a front license plate. The fine is something like $200. Anybody been hassled by The Man for not having a front plate? I wonder what they'll do for all those people who threw them away?

we've had this law in california for as long as i can remember. i did get busted for it once about 15 years ago on my mustang, by a meter maid who was no doubt below their quota for the month. i had taken the plate and bracket off because it made the mustang look cooler, but i misplaced them so i couldn't put them back on to just pay the $10 fix it ticket. so instead i sent a letter to the DMV saying that someone backed into my car breaking the license plate bracket, and i ordered a new bracket but it is on backorder. it was a total lie. anyway, they waived the ticket and i never put the plate back on.

Looks like your legislature was busy, quite a few new regs for your roads:

New traffic and criminal laws taking effect Sept. 1 | The Blotter | www.statesman.com

Among them ...

HB 625 clarifies that the penalty for operating a vehicle on a public highway without displaying the two license plates assigned to the vehicle is a misdemeanor offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

I was pulled over by the DPS last summer for no front tag. I still have the tag, just not in my rig at the time.
He asked what happened to it, I told him it got knocked off when I was trail riding.

He let me go with a warning.

I got one of those brackets that attaches to the winch and put the plate back on.

Why not just put the front plate on?

(I grew up mostly in Iowa and there were always front plates).

Always had to have the front plate in Texas; the punishment is now clearly defined. You can purchase a license plate mount for your fairlead or mount it to the bumper.

Mass has that law in place now and I have yet to be hassled. Only time I run into problems is with inspections. They said it has to have two bolts in it.
