New vs used
So I'm looking at new jeeps! Oh course who isn't.
I've gone into the dealer many times, got them down to invoice on the Wiley's 6mt in the color I want. Only problem is my wife wants auto. I also think it might be easier to wheel.
There is a 12' with 40k on it for 27k. Pro comp wheels and tires with bump stop lift and soft top.
Or should I just get the new one in auto with a hard top. I'm just thinking if I can save a couple k why not?
Any thoughts? And yes I'm new to here but not forums or off roading. Thanks

Depends what the cost difference is between the two. If you save a couple thousand and get a jeep with 40k on it is it worth it to you? The options the two jeeps would have me torn because I like the 6 speed with the hard top. I would say if your spending that much money I would get the new one and build it the way you want. My 2cents
It's impossible to 'save' when you own a Jeep it's just a mythical idea. Get what you like because if you don't you're just going to be out more $$$ down the road, I went new over old for many reasons, but mainly warranty.
Pre-wheeled with 40k from an unknown owner, I'd take a pass.
I also don't think wheeling an auto trans Jeep is easier.
If you are planning to use the Jeep as a daily driver, I'd look for one with a hardtop. Else you leave nothing inside, ever, because someone will unzip, slice, rip and take whatever is inside. No joke.

I see it like this. Miles are life. I plan to keep my JK until it dies. 40K is a lot of life gone that I didnt get to enjoy. If you can afford it, I would get new. If money is a pretty big concern then get the used to save cash and you will still have many miles of life to enjoy it. But, getting exactly what you want and not settling is always worth a little more $$$. You dont want regrets.
If you buy used, you may want to do so private party depending on your area.
For example, sales tax here is ~10% (rounded up a lil, it's about 9.8). So, a dealer will charge you dock fees, title, and other B/S fees along with 10% tax...so a $30,000 sale will run you $3,000 in just tax..plus dealer fees.
Also, many private sales will save you tax (area dependent) and be at a lower overall price. For example, I got my 08 Rubicon in 2011 with lift, wheels, bumpers, sliders, audio equipment...etc (SEMA built) at 16,000 miles for $25,000. Also, my insurance is less since it's not brand new, and registration in Az is Blue Book dependent, so my tags aren't as much as a new JK.
Food for thought, and welcome to the forum!

Most of the time used Jk are over priced due to their good resale value. With low interest rate and good rebate from a new JK the choice is simple.
The only used JK I would buy is a totaled one but still repairable and I would make a beast out of it (6.4 Hemi V8 swap, long arms with coil over suspension, 1 ton axles, 40''+ tires, etc).

My uncle has a hemi swap jeep. But his trans I think is the 08 4 spd. It's trash. Maybe a better trans would have served it better.
Also thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the one I want is near impossible to find. Although they did get the whileys on today
