Default Newbee questions...

Being my 1st post I will not be negative even thou I was really disappointed with the salesperson who sold me the Rubicon, so based on that I will say that he just basically handed me the keys and that was it.
I have tons of questions being not only that this is my 1st Jeep but my 1st non Honda. I will start in saying that I bought for my wife an ' 07 Rubicon, 6 SP with the hard/ soft tops, so here are my questions that I hope are not silly for those who choose to answer.
1) Does the "torque wrench" mentioned in the manual to remove the roof and other parts of the Jeep included or do I need to buy it a the local HD.
2) Does anyone know if the wheel locks for the "expensive tires" that the finance guy wanted me to buy the EXTRA protection insurance are the same ones that would fit earlier models?.
3) Do I need to remove the soft top that is now under the hard top or can it wait until Spring.
4) Do I need to buy an extra set of wheel locks since the set only has 4 wheel locks and the Ruby has the spare mounted on an additional lug ?
5) Does the cable connector for the I 'Pod/ MP3 player come with the vehicle and is somewhere that so far I haven't found or is something a local Radio Shack store can help me.
6) Do you have a favorite online site that you buy your accessories at a substantial savings?.
As you see these are the same questions I asked the salesperson and his response, let me read the owner's manual which I responded, nah I'll do it.
One more before I forget it is ..is there a bracket for the front plate that I can buy instead of drilling self tapping screws into it to hold the front plate…..

Thanks for reading….

Im a newb myself but maybe I could help out on some questions, someone correct me if Im wrong:
1) Torx wrenches are pretty common tools, you can find them in any hardware store, They look like Hex wrenches but with like a pointed star pattern rather then a flat sided hexagon?

3) You don't have to remove your soft top but I did anways because it obstructed view a bit. I took it off the same time I took off my hard top for kicks. Im pretty sure you have to have the hard top off because I can only imagine it being next to impossible with the hard top on removing the soft.

5) The cable does NOT come with the vehicle, but any Radio Shack type store should carry the double male ended auxillary cable you need. Just ask for the Ipod accessory stuff.

6) I havent personally seen that many JK specific accessories. But I have been trolling around http://www.quadratec.com/

Theres got to be a plate out there, My old grand cherokee had a mounting plate screwed into the bumper

4. you only put one wheel lock on per wheel. But you need 5 since you have a spare on the back.

5. no cable is included

6. http://www.quadratec.com/ is the best place to buy jeep parts/accessories

7. Jeep dealers have terrible customer service, get use to it. And if you have any problems, they will tell you "its a jeep thing"

Most not all. Some can be very good.

Also, I would recommend taking the soft top out if you have dual tops. It rubbed in several places on my '01 and '03 and will be ruined by spring if it's your daily driver. I'm not sure if the rubbing issue is the same on the JK. It's best to inspect it for yourself.

1) Does the "torque wrench" mentioned in the manual to remove the roof and other parts of the Jeep included or do I need to buy it a the local HD.
Torque wrench? Or Torx Bit? I don't know why the manual would say to use a torque wrench as the torx bolts only need to be hand tightened to maybe 20 ft. lbs. of torque max. Now the torx bolts have have a 6-sided star shaped hole on top of it that will require a torx bit to remove. The torx bit will plug into a standard 3/8" drive ratchet.

2) Does anyone know if the wheel locks for the "expensive tires" that the finance guy wanted me to buy the EXTRA protection insurance are the same ones that would fit earlier models?.
I don't think so but I do not know for sure.

3) Do I need to remove the soft top that is now under the hard top or can it wait until Spring.
You can probably wait but it would be better to remove it to prevent accidentally damaging it loading and unloading stuff out of your Jeep. You will need to remove your hard top to do this though.

4) Do I need to buy an extra set of wheel locks since the set only has 4 wheel locks and the Ruby has the spare mounted on an additional lug ?
In all honesty, I didn't know any of the wheels had locks except for the spare.

5) Does the cable connector for the I 'Pod/ MP3 player come with the vehicle and is somewhere that so far I haven't found or is something a local Radio Shack store can help me.
No, but a standard mini-jack cable (male to male) is all you need and yes, it can be purchased at RadioShack for cheap.

6) Do you have a favorite online site that you buy your accessories at a substantial savings?
As mentioned, we have vendors that help to sponsor Project-JK.com and JK-Forum.com and I would encourage you to support one of them. I think you will find that they are all very competitive in their prices and have great customer service

Unfortunately, no.

while we're asking questions here, I got one for yall. Anybody have to change a tire yet? I stopped on the side of the road yesterday to help this lady change hers and she didnt have a jack. So I went to get mine out and could not get the damn thing out at all. I was pulling as hard as i could and the damn thing wouldnt budge! It looks like it should just pull free from a little metal lip that holds it in but it was really in there. I looked in the owners manual to see if there was a screw or something holding it in there but it simply says "Remove the jack". We ended up finding a jack in the back of her trunk, thank god. But i sure felt like a jackass when I couldnt get my jack out. Maybe i just needa a big ass screwdriver to wrench it out? Thanks.

1st let me answer your question, I had to get the lug wrench to remove one of the wheel nuts so that I can match the thread at the local auto parts store and I had to actually twist the part of the jack that will elevate or lower it because it was "frozen" in place, maybe they use some type of tool at the factory to "lock" it open in place.

Secondly I want to thank all who responded. I will go and buy a set of T Torx so that I can remove the hard top just in case, since I think having a four door, the soft top rolled up inside doesn't touch anything, but I'd rather be pro active.

Thirdly I want to ask "again" if anyone else has installed their "tube steps" themselves because $180 for the install at the dealer is ridiculous.....
