Code. 175.80.(4).(i).

(4) Check the door operation, including the tailgate, and reject if one or more of the following apply:

(i) The doors, except a tailgate on a pick-up truck, are not on the vehicle if originally fitted by the manufacturer.

What's not to understand.. The vehicle code is quite clear.
I live in Pa, and if I choose to run with no doors, That's my choice. If I'm stopped and cited for a vehicle equipment violation, I have no one to blame but myself. All Pa. residents are in the same boat.

Enlighten me a little bit on this, as we don't have these types of inspections in Tennessee...Is this a procedure that is done during a once-a-year inspection? Or can it be enforced by any law enforcement officer at any time? We have emissions testing her in certain counties, but it is only done once a year prior to renewing the registration. If PA is similar, couldn't you put the doors on for the inspection and then take them off later? Do you get a sticker or something? I would like to read the entire code relating to when the inspection is to be done and by whom. Maybe I will look it up...

If you get pulled over for not having doors.. point at a motorcycle.

Should give the officer a nice

Yes and no. We do have a once a year inspection with a sticker. I usually have to switch some things around to pass, usually tires or mud flats etc. The same thing with the doors, I would make sure they are on for inspection.

A police officer can also stop and cite you for inspection violations. I have already been pulled over for tires extending beyond the body and no mud flaps. Every time I was allowed to "fix" the problem with in a few weeks, show them at the station and the ticket was torn up.

Ive also seen people get fines without an oppurtunity to fix it. I think it really depends on the Cop and the situation. In my experience, newer Cops tend to ticket more for inspection violations and older ones only tend to do it if you piss them off. Ive already seen them call in a DOT officer and break out a creeper.

I agree, but I NEVER point anything out to an officer. I just smile and nod. "Have a nice day" But I fight the ticket and point things out to the judge if I think Im in the right.

I drove right by a police officer with my doors off, he didn't even notice.

My neighbor takes his doors off his TJ, I'll have to ask him if he's ever had a problem.

I see plenty of doorless Jeeps in the Summer in Philly.

Yeah, we have tons around here too. In fact I had a local cop give me a thumbs up with the doors off last week I only know of two people getting tickets for no doors around here, both in the same township. One just paid the fine and the other fought it and won. That was 5 or 6 years ago.

I have spent the last hour serching throughthe PA code and can find plenty of information about the requirement of the safety inspection/sticker, but nothing about enforcement, other than a vehicle can be pulled over for not having the sticker. If someone knows the code, tell me where it authorizes law enforcement officers to stop someone for the equipment violation without a sticker violation.

This is the smartest statement yet in this thread. Just do not argue with the cop, he's just doing his job based on his understanding of the law. Wait until you get to the judge to plead your case......

I don't know where it is in the code, but there is a box for it right on the citation form. I know this since I got stopped and cited for it (and only that) 4 days ago (there is a whole separate thread about that in Jk Talk).
