Default Not impressed with Tom Woods

Ok........In October of 2010 I put new Tom Woods drive shafts in my Jk. I ordered them from Quadratech and they were almost $600.00 apiece. In November I had un unbelievable rotational squeak and took it to my local shop, they discovered that the front drive shaft CV had never been greased. They handled it.........Fast forward to September 2nd 2011. Im coming home from the gym and without warning I start experiencing a rotational thump that I can hear and feel in my stick shift.....When I get home I crawl under my jeep and can move my rear drive shaft in a half inch circle side to side. Now ......I made sure after the November issue to grease those CV's and my U-Joints every 3 months......There was no lack of grease!!! When I took my jeep to the driveline shop...I find out that the CV's and the U-Joints are the cheapest Chinese made shit on the planet!!! Now you would think that for $600.00 apiece they could put Spicer U-Joints in the Drivelines......When I called Tom Woods about the issue, their manager basically told me "Tough Shit" and hung up on me.The repair cost me $300.00.....now for $350.00 you can get J. Reel driveshafts that are equiped with Spicer equipment. My point being that when you get as big as Tom Woods and are running on a reputation that is no longer valid...your customer service and your quality can go down the toilet!!! Just a few of my own thoughts on the value of a dollar in this economy and the companies that could care less!!!

Default Very Disapointed in NC

I put in a front and rear Tom Woods in October 2010 also. About 50 miles down the highway the front shaft started squealing. Same problem. The front shaft wasnt greased properly when they made it. So it was greased and properly greased monthly. It always had a driveline vibration from day one. Well last month it started knocking and got louder fast. I called Tom Woods and they told me to ship it to them which is on the other side of the country. And that they would decide whether they would make me pay for the repair or not. The driveshafts were purchased from Clayton Offroad and I informed them about it from day one. I also called Tom Woods about the driveline vibration and the squeal back in Oct 2010. They told me I would have to adjust my caster some more if i wanted to get rid of the vibration. So I said screw them and purchased a new one from Tattons driveline with spicer U joints for $230. I just had to mount the Tom Woods flange to the Tattons. So I am not going to pay to ship them the driveshaft and pay for it to be repaired when it was screwed up from day one. I am also very disapointed in Tom Woods and wont purchase from them again unless something changes.

I had my Tom Woods shaft installed at the local shop I use about two weeks ago. I was there when they opened the Shipping Box. I almost refused it right there, each end of the Shaft was a Huge glob of grease. I mean they completely over greased each U Joint blowing out every single Frick'in seal. We specified Spicer U Joints when it was ordered, I hope to hell they are..!! Bottom line, I'd like another Driveshaft based on the condition of the one I recieved. I've just not gone down that road yet.

I wont buy from them again. Tattons is cheaper and they use spicer joints. There has been post on the forum saying tattons uses chinese joints but that is a load of crap. My new shaft has all spicer u-joints. Also Curtis Tatton was great to deal with on the phone.

Just make sure you grease it well prior to install. Get the four inch grease fitting for the CV joint.
