Default Oil cap missing (DEALER)

Yesterday I lifted the hood to check the oil after a wash and clean. As I look I see no oil cap. I'm furious. I've rode around 2000 miles without it. Am I in trouble? I just called the dealer and they said to bring it by to get a cap on. What should I do when I get there? I'm scared dust/pollen/water may have got in.

1. Have it documented who lost the cap and how long it's been gone.
2. Change that oil, possibly PCV valve too.
3. Check your oil (and cap) monthly or at particular mileage intervals if you're driving long distances.

While some dust probably won't kill your engine, why let $25 stop you from being sure the motor has clean oil?

Doubt you'll get anywhere trying to get more than the missing oil cap and a fresh change of oil. You might raise a stink and ask for a second change after 500 miles just to be prudent that the contaminants are flushed out. If they won't do it, do it yourself. You could run dino for that 500 miles to keep the cost down. Change filter every time, of course.

Thanks guys, yea I'm going to ask for a flush and a oil change. Then get a paper signed by the service manager stating the error incase anything happens.

Perhaps even better than that, ensure that they enter the exact customer complaint into the computer: "Oil cap was not installed after last oil change." Then if there is a problem, there's a record at Chrysler, and the dealer doesn't tell you some nonsense like, "What? That's Joe's signature. We fired him six weeks ago; take us to court because we're not honoring that!"

Well gave me a new cap, and changed the oil and gave me something in writing in case anything happens down the road. Didn't think it would have been that easy but guess they don't want the trouble if getting into legal trouble

Writing as in typed out in the computer, correct? It's about ensuring your bases are covered.

My first oil change at the dealer they forgot to put on oil cap. Never went back. I have over 50,000 mile on mine now and have not had any issues.

Im sure you will be fine, but this is why I hate to let anyone work on my jeep unless its something that I don't have the ability or tools to do myself. People just don't care or pay attention to things if its not their own.
