Default Oil Change

Was wondering Jeep has abt 3,900 miles on it, and the Change oil Light hasn't come on yet, I was wondering why it is taken forever for the light to come on? Any Suggestions?

Duty cycle of yours might be reading you are still good. Good driving conditions or something.

I would change it, due to it being the first. I had mine changed mine at 3200, went with standard oil. I am starting, this weekend to change my own, and going to Mobil 1. (6300). My interval will go to about 4,000 to 5,000 after that.

change it for sure being its the first oil change. then let the computer decide. as stated it doesn't just count miles anymore it looks at starting temps, idle times etc....

I just change mine every 3000 miles. I want my jeep to last as long as posible. I have a geo metro with 265,000 miles on it with absolutly no engine problems and i changed the oil every 3,000. I look at it as Asureance that I am not going to have any problems. I know its not 100% but it definatley reduces the chance of engine problems.

90% of my driving is hwy, so the oil change light only comes on every 5500 miles. The manual clearly states to change the oil UP TO EVERY 6000 miles. Today's engines are precision built, and can go longer between oil changes. I have 36k miles on my jeep, and have done every oil change exactly at 5500 miles with no problems. Don't get caught up in the old mindset of the 3000 mile changes. It no longer applies.

My first oil change light came up at about 2500 miles, but I had done a lot of off roading (In my opinion).

I would go ahead and change it. It still has all the assembly lube in it from the factory, not to mention and tiny metal particles from break in. I changed mine when the Jeep got 1000 miles on it and again when my ne engine got the same amount.
