ok i got 3000 miles on my new rubicon. when are yall changing your oil? the manual says 6000 i think but i always have changed oil at 3000 on past vehicles. what oil do yall reccomend? i have run castrol in past vehicles and wondered what everybody was running in the jk. does it take 5 or 6 qt.? lol i know im a lil lazy. im may change it tommorrow probally and was just had these few questions for yall

 

i CHANGE IT EVERY 3K. 6 quarts

 

I changed mine last week at 3,000 miles. The manual also lays out a a different schedule for severe duty use which means you if you take the vehicle off-road, drive in allot of rush hour, etc.

I used Castrol synthetic this time around and I'm going to stick with synthetic. And I used a K&N oil filter. It takes six quarts of oil when you change it.

 

I change it 3000 if its dino and 5000 if its synthetic. Anything less and you are wasting money, time and creating wear and tear. Maybe 1% has gotten close to a severe duty cycle. Those that run the streams and mud holes are more apt to check more often. Synthetic is good stuff Maynard so why not enjoy it a little longer....

To clarify, I intend to change mine every 5,000 miles going forward. The last change was also the first change at 3,000 on the odometer.

 

the manual says every 3000. i do it every 3000.

 

Just did my first, Saturday at 1500 miles. I will do it again at 3000 then after that i will go every 3000 mies. Just what i do with fresh motors.

 

As in my earlier thread, changing your oil too often is not good either. You are not allowing the process to properly break down, create friction where required and break-in!
The oil manufacturing process creates excellent properties in todays oil's. For a good break in, you use crappy oil and allow friction in the right amount along with heat which creates a solid long lasting motor.
By using synthetics right off the bat, the breakin process is elongated due to the exceptional properties.
for cars, the milestones are the 1st 500 and the first 3000. RPM and heat at first and then lubrication. I'm just sayin......

So what about those cars that come standard with synthetic?

The most wear will occur in the first 100 miles. Rings seat by using the crosshatch pattern honed into the cylinders. Oil choice does NOT make a difference. If anything, changing the first few times early - even very early - just means you don't have wear particles circulating.

Run the vehicle as you intend.
