Default Oil problem

i'm wondering about the mileage that people put on there oil change schedule. in my canadian manual they tell me to change my oil at a maximum of 10000kms or 6250 miles .the oil change light on the dash comes on at 4000kms faithfully for the last 80000 kms no matter if the mileage is put on in 2 weeks or two months all highway miles or getting the grub and off roading. i think that 10000 mile is a bit much and could be part of our bearing problem

I change mine every 6000 miles using Mobil1 and Purolator or Mopar filter. My light comes on within a hundred miles or so of changing. As far as I know, the computer takes into account driving style and calculates the interval to change it.

Since new, I've changed mine at 2000 and 4900 miles. When I changed it at 2000, I did the ECM reset even though the light was not on. My light came on at 4800. Assuming I actually did reset it correctly at 2000, I thought that was a little soon, but I did have several days of wheeling on it and I ran 32" tires and 5.13 gears for a lot of those miles.

I plan on changing it after about 3000 miles as a rule.

I change every 3K. Your oil can never be too clean, our your filter too new. Small price to pay for keeping the engine happy.

When using dyno oil I change at 3K miles (or less) but since I switched to synthetic I change every 5K miles and so far my Jeep (and other vehicles) runs great

Default follow manufacturer rec.'s

Follow the recommendations in your manual, if you change too often you're wasting money. To me it's best to follow the recommended interval and use great quality oil and filters.

I follow the recco's in my manual and use Mobile 1 synthetic and high quality filters.

To me using regular grade motor oil every 2k-3k miles is too costly, wasteful and time consuming. You can do a full Mobil 1 synthetic oil change with good filter for about $35 - $40 bucks doing it yourself and doing it at the recommended interval.
