Only really whacked myself hard once since i can remember wrenching. Doing it everyday does hone your "don't do that" senses. I found out why you don't use a universal socket on a 10,000rpm 3/8" impact gun. It will whip the 5/16" bolt at your for head at an extremely fast rate.

Other than that, just minor knuckle busting. Pretty rare these days, sharp exhaust shields and mating surfaces still get me sometimes. SOB's are sharp!

Doing something around the steering box and the wrench slipped sending my pinkie into the sheet metal. Was too busy to stop and deal with it, just made a duct tape bandaid. It took over two months to heal. Later went to the doc about something else, he said I should've gotten 4 stitches for it.

When I was a kid, I was reading a book about PT boats in WWII. There was a small section about a chief whose torque wrench slipped, smacking hi in the head giving him a cerebral hemorage. He died of it four days later. Took me years to find out what a torque wrench was, but that passage always stuck in my head. Something about going through hell in battle after battle and then a wrench in the head? It still keeps me careful whenever I pull a tool toward my face. Now if I can just remember to wear mech gloves....

I feel for you man. Last month I was changing the air suspension balloons on my International. The damn nut was seized on so bad and I forced so hard that I busted the ratchet extension only to have my hand holding the ratchet slam down on my head. I just tilted my head over to the side expecting the blood to start gushing but all was good except for huge egg size swell and a small slice. The gf always says I have a hard head and I proved her right.

I now have a headache.

How bout this one.... On my old YJ, a buddy was helping me put the hard topp on for winter and slammed the drivers door on my fingers to the point that it latched....

Thats when I noticed that the door was locked and the keys were on the drivers seat....

He had to crawl in through the rear gate to open the door!

Now, that's painfull but funny! Stupid freakin thread, I went out to put auto goop on my control arm nuts, had to loosen them first. All the while thinkin about this thread and looking at the upper control arm mount as the jamnut broke free on the lower control arm and took a 1/4 inch by 3in chunk of flesh outta my middle finger. Thought I had broke it. Was thinkin of this thread right before it broke loose dammit. I gotta ductape bandage right now. Stupid freakin thread.

Great thread. Why do we do stupid things when we know we're going to get bitten.

I was drilling my antenae mount so I could rotate it. The metal was really soft so being the genius I am I figured I'd carefully hold it while I was drilling it. Drilled the first two holes with no problem. I was surprised I still had all my skin. Well, then as the bit broke through on the last hole it caught and spun my hand into the drill. Nothing bad, but a real confirmation that I am an idiot!! My 3 1/2 year old son is still convinced he could see my bones, but it just pulled the skin back in a couple of places on my thumb. I wish I could say I learned my lesson.
