Option to GAP insurance
I had a nice talk this morning with my insurance agent and we talked about adding my new JK to my policy and what it would do to it....He pointed me to a new replacement plan they have that is only $48/yr and only good for 5yrs, but if you totalled your car, it would pay to replace your car with the same make/model in the current model year, so if in three years I totalled my '08 I would get the same make/model in a 2011 only paying the deductable. Unfortunitly it probably doesn't cover any mods, or if someone else's insurance is responsible for repairing or covering the cost.
This is much nicer than GAP....and in some cases cheaper.

What I do anytime I buy a new vehicle is I buy a "Gap" policy up front for something like a one time $100 charge. I usually do this with my bank or credit union if I get a loan for the vehicle. Gap is very important if you finance a vehicle but I don't particularly like the idea of paying $48 a year for it over 5 years.
If you total a vehicle and still owe on it, the vehicle is likely not worth what you owe on it. The insurance company will only pay the current value of the vehicle. The "Gap" makes up the difference. I like having the gap separate from my insurance company since the gap is specifically to cover any differences in any insurance payout and the loan balance.
As far as someone else's insurance being responsible for damages, they will cover street legal accessories. Be careful what you call "modifications" to an insurance companies. Most things we do to the jeeps are actually accessories. Lights, bumpers, lift kits etc. A hemi conversion or supercharger is a modification. AS far as what your policy covers, that depends on your insurance company.
