Over drive....
I feel slightly retarded asking this since I've had the jeep for over a year. Is od important? I knew it allows you to hit your final gear but if I turn it off to get on the highway is it ok? When should I put it back on? And when else can I turn it off and such?
I keep it off around town, and when driving on hilly main roads, where the speed limit is 40 to 50 mph.
I keep it off everywhere when towing.
I keep it on, on the highway. If it seems to delay the downshift when going up a long grade, I'll hit the button and leave it off until we get to the top.
There is nothing wrong with leaving it off all the time. The ratio is 1:1, as were most vehicles before the widespread use of overdrive.
When you are 4-wheeling, especially in 4lo, keep it off. That will prevent it from hunting between 3rd and 4th. The transmission will stay cooler.

Also if your on a "hilly" road and the jeep keeps going in and out of OD, it will kill your gas mileage. I live in tteh blue ridge mountains here in NC and some times I have to cut OD off even with my stock 32s. But no, it will not hurt nothing.
I wish they put that button somewhere else like on the actual shifter on the autos, or maybe on the steering wheel. Im too lazy to reach up and hit it while driving
