OVERLAND EXCURSION - 1 week - Extra Fuel?
I leave for my Overland Excursion in a week. I'll be gone for 2 weeks. The roads I'll be taking to my designated camping sites might be dumb to trek without an extra gas can or two.
I won't be driving with windows (soft top). Because of the open air, could I safely strap down a 5gal Jerry can within the trunk space of my 2dr JK without the fumes interfering with my senses and alertness? Any advice would be great....
NOTE: I would fabricate a holder for the gas can(s) in the trunk space so vapor couldn't leak onto my carpet or gear.
Thanks!

If you're going to have it in back with the windows off you'll be fine. It wouldn't be much different then having them on a tire carrier mount. The air flow will be sucking it all through the back as your driving and if you stop for a prolonged period of time i doubt you'll be in the jeep.
I might even go as far as taking the rear carpet out of the cargo area. Fuel is one of those things that seems to find a way to permeate anything and ruin it. Other than that, you should be good to go!

Because you are running windowless....Carrying the fuel cans in the back "trunk" of the Jeep is really no different than having fuel cans mounted on a tire carrier.
What type of cans are you using? Some are more leaky than others.
BTW...I am jealous of a two week overland trip. Sounds like fun!!

Sounds like a blast! As long as you have windows out and good quality cans I think you will be ok. I am going on a trip this weekend and have one Gerry can strapped to my spare tire use two ratchet type straps.
