Default The Owners Manual!

First let me say that this thread is not directed at any member here personally so don't take anything here personally. I know that before I got my Jeep I had some questions that I didn't know the answer to. If you fall into that category this thread especially does not apply to you. However, when I finally got my Jeep the first thing I did was read the owners manual, in it's entirety, front to back. As I did I found that all the questions I had asked previously were answered clearly right there in the owners manual.

Is it just me or are there a heck of a lot of questions that get asked around here by JK owners that could easily be answered by the owners manual? I see it everyday. Now don't get me wrong I really don't mind talking about our beloved Jeep Wrangler and if some of us are asking questions just for the sake of being able to talk about the Jeep, well ok. But seriously, read that owners manual boys and girls. It will answer so many questions that have been posted around here. Everything from "What kind of oil" to "How do I put my soft top down." and many things in between. Read that rascal because I know that as fellow Jeep owners you are smart, intelligent, vibrant people and I would hate for anyone to think less of us. lol

Now, can someone please tell me how the doggon doors come off? lol

I personally thought the information on taking the top off was horrible in the manual.

I read mine quickly, and boy was it dry. The forum is a lot easier .

They won't use SEARCH, yet you want them to read a book?

Door removal is covered in the owners manual, but sometimes its a little generic in the description. I was actually searching for answers to a few questions on the forum when my father stopped by and asked "did you check the manual?"
As usual he was right and the answers were right there in my jeep about my jeep.

As others have suggested, sometimes the owner's manual just doesn't explain it quite clearly enough. And sometimes folks look but somehow miss the entry. To that latter, I suggest downloading the .pdf version from Jeep.com. Use the search feature on the electronic version to find info. Works like a charm.

Oh, and as for reading the manual when you first buy your JK: I had the electronic copy "devoured" in the three months that I waited for mine to be delivered!

You are 100% correct. It seems that in this day and age it is easier to just pop onto a forum and ask a question instead of doing the reading yourself. READ IT YOURSELF PEOPLE, you just might accidentally answer next week's question too while you're at it.

I work as a service tech at a Pontiac-GMC dealership, it is unbelievable how many times vehicles come in with a complaint of some sort about thier vehicle doing something wierd, we find it is normal operation. Thats when we pull the owners manual out, open it to the page where it explains the certain "problem" in detail and leave it on the drivers seat. Honestly though, almost everytime I check the customers owners manual, its still packaged as it was from the factory. I dont understand why people will spend so much money on a vehicle and not even read the freaking manual. That is pure liquid stupid in a bottle if you ask me!!!!!
