I pulled the roll bar padding from the rear section of my 4dr & noticed the color coat only goes about a foot up the bar, then it is primer (with apparently a clear coat. Is that typical?

 

Wow, how much extra did you pay for that? Mine only has primer and no clearcoat?

 

Other forum members have pulled their rollbar padding off, and discovered the same thing... so no, it's not just you.

 

I was surprised at the low paint quality on my JK upon close inspection. None of the hinges on the vehicle are fully painted. The first time I opened the hood I heard cracking as the paint chipped around the hinges, and are already rusting. Also, at the factory, somebody stripped the paint off the bolts on the windshield... those started to rust within a week of driving home the first time.

 

My tj was like that too, no paint on the roll bars. My Jk factory paint is nothing to get exieted over either, its REALLY thin around the door hinges.

 

Paint? We don't need no stinking paint!

 

Guess I'm a lucky one.
We traded the wifes's 99XJ on a 07 Black JK Unlimited "x" in Dec of 06.
Our hinges are covered pretty good, and when I took the soft top off the first summer, I pulled the padding off the roll bars to see the paint. Good Black paint throughout. The clearcoat though leaves a bit to be desired, but after a good coat of NXT, the roll bars look great.

i am thinking about pulling my rollbar padding as well and bed line it...

 

You musta got black primer I think all jk's were supposed to be gray and someone goofed up and slapped some color on
