Default Paint issues

I traded in my 03 TJ Rubicon for a 2009 White Rubicon in October. I noticed last weekend that I have dozens of small pin-point what look to be rust spots on boths sides of the Jeep. Seriously. WTF. Anyone else seen this? If so, what was the dealers response? I have an appt with the Manager today, just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this.

Personally, I don't want the problem mitigated (i.e. new paint job). Once rust is there, it is always there. I want a new friggin Jeep. It's four months old with 6000 miles and I have paint rust!!!

Have you checked closely to see if it road contaiments embedded in the clear coat??

I know I have had issues with this on several of my vehicles running on the highway during the winter months. I know in my area the sanding trucks use Brake Pads under the metal plow blades to reduce wear and passing them some of this brake dust embeds into my vehicles clearcoat. It is small tiny specs that once water, salt & air hit the embedded particle it would start to rust and make your vehicle look horrible. Claybaring each year fixed this issue!

However, it could also be Rail Dust....was your JK transported by RAIL??? I had Railcar brake Dust embedded in my clear on my white truck....as soon as winter came along and the road salt and water started to rust this brake dust....it literally looked like my truck was rusting....Claybar and waxing took the majority of the embadded brake dust

Good advice guys! Very insightful. I don't want to mess with removing all the aftermarket crap I've put on it to have it traded in.

Just keep an eye out....and if you see any black particles embedded on your paint (along the doors or side panels) when you pick your white Ruby up...this maybe rail dust. Most times you can even feel some of the gritty particles. If you use your hand and gently move it along the door and panels you can feel these embedded particles. So..before you take ownership....have Jeep Claybar & wax your entire vehicle for nothing if you suspect rail dust.

I also have a white jk and i have small rust spots, i took a good look at it yesterday and have come to the conclusion that rust spots may be coming from brake dust created by the Jeep itself. the spots are concentrated on the doors and quarter panels, not the hood or rear gate. I am not positive weather or not Jeep uses metallic type brake pads but i know when i change them I will use organic pads to see if there is a difference.

Default same here

i also freaked out after only 2-3 months and i noticed the spots all over the sides. later discovered that this in fact is brake dust/particles that are imbedded on the surface.....new it wasn't the body sheet metal when i noticed the spots on the rear flares as well which are obviously plastic and can't rust.

good clay bar treatment early spring and then a good waxing keeps it looking new!!

odd thing though is that this happened during the last winter but a year later and this winter i do not have any spots yet???? maybe it has to do with new rotors/pads and once they "break in" it goes away???
