(I didn't put this under modified JK tech because it doesn't really help the vehicle perform better)

I'm thinking that I want to paint the hard top on my 2010 JK. I'm slowly getting a chrome/stainless steel kit for the jeep, and my tan hard top just doesn't go well with the rest of the set. So, I
was thinking that I could paint it black like the rest of the jeep. But I'm concerned what that is going to involve. Could I just take a green scuff pad to it and it would be fine to paint? Or does it require much more work that I probably wouldn't want to do? Thanks for the help.

 

I think it would be more efficient and have a better result if you just bought a black top and then sold the tan one rather than painting the tan one. Some things to consider are what type of paint would you use? It would need to be able to withstand some scratches and the elements. Next, what look are you going for? A very clean, classy look would need a professional paint job. If you want a tough look, then maybe you could paint your currunt top with Rhino Liner. As far as a scotchbright pad, I think it'd just add swirls and scatches that you would see after painting. I think it'd need a fine sanding, primer, then paint. If using Rhino Liner, just ensure its free from dirt and oils to ensure the best results. Could clean it with alcohol to do that. Hope my input helps!
