The Penstar should be a part of the MY2012. Not sure where the confussion over the timeline is from. This was made as close to as official as possible when they had to lay out their road map for bailout bucks.
For me it wasn't worth waiting. I wanted a 6 speed and found the minvan power acceptable for a 2door. While the Penstar is a move in the right direction, it was'nt worth being jeepless a couple extra years over.

I brought this up a little while ago. The 3.6 is not exactly everything it is being hyped up to be. It will be great on road, off is another story.

I knew about the new engine before buying my 2010. This is my first wrangler and it is too much fun for me to wait.
It was either missing on about three years of fun and waiting for most of the new bugs to be ironed out before buying.
What's the worst that can happen? If the new engine is as good as "they" say, I'll trade in 2014 and loose a few thousands due to depreciation.
