Default Pentastar V6 Impressions

I traded in my 07' Sahara a couple weeks ago for a 12' Unlimited Sport. Finally! A Wrangler than can keep up with highway traffic with little or no effort! I have to admit before I jumped in my JKU I was very skeptical but when I spun BOTH rear wheels going into a turn I was ready to buy before I made it to the next traffic light.

This Jeep accelerates EFFORTLESSLY. Two weeks later and I'm still grinning at the fact that I can cruise at 40mph, even uphill, and barely have my foot on the accelerator. My JKU grunts like a diesel engine under mild acceleration and screams almost like a Hemi under hard acceleration. When walking around the JKU at idle it sounds like a v8.

This JKU can easily, easily hit 80mph upon entering highway traffic and serge past 100mph in no time flat. I'm estimating by the distance the needle went past 100mph that I must have gone at least 120 to 130mph. I haven't had a chance to go off-road yet due to making a big move into a new house. Neverthless, I know this engine will be a big improvement. My old 3.8 liter simply could not handle slow approaches to drastic inclines without choking and sputtering, and in some cases even halfway up a hill it would choke or sputter.

Gas mileage has been better than the factory estimated 17 city/ 20 hwy. For the first couple days I was averaging 16mpg but after hitting over 100mph on the highway I started clocking 20 to 21mpg. Now I'm averaging 18mpg and climbing on a daily basis.

Dammit, people! Stop posting this crap! It's gonna end up costing me money!!()

Just kidding. I do like the 3.6/5 speed auto combination.

And thanks for pulling your engine for the photo shoot. (Get those Rubicon stickers off your Sport, too.)

So you bought a new Jeep and the first thing you did is pull the engine out to admire it?!

Grats on your purchase!

Mine is almost a week old and I'm only getting 17.2 mpg on hwy and havnt broken 75mph yet. Maybe I need to open her up a bit (120 mph) and see how she does. Haha. Thanks.

Yep. It only took 3 days. All I used was a $20 rachet set from Autozone and the factory jack.

Actually, here's my JKU:

I was averaging between 16-17 mph myself until I opened it up on the highway. Here's my MPG meter readings afterwards:

Gonna go on another run down the highway in the morning. I'll record it next time. It's just a rough estimate but the needle was well past 100mph at the bottom of the guage and it STILL felt like it could go faster. I was shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YA, that no governor kicked in when I went past 100mph.

I wouldn't put much stock in that reading. My last fill up it said 17.something mpg for the tank and I calculated it out to 15.4 mpg.
