Please Help Me Decide!!!!!
Hello all, I ordered a 2 door X in late November, with the dual tops, sidesteps, infinity stereo, remote start, s package. It has a tentative ship date of 1/8/08. I just found a new place to live, but now I will not have a place to store the hard top, and from reading this forum, I've really fallen in love with the half doors. So I was thinking of canceling my order, and ordering a Rubi with soft top and half doors. Without the dual top group, and power package, The Rubi really wont be costing too much more, plus I won't have to do any mods for a while, as i'm not a hard core wheeler. What do you guys think? I have a great dealer, who will give me invoice price on whatever I want, I'm sure he wont mind if I cancel my X order to get a Rubi! Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated!!
If it were me, living in NY, I would find a place to store the hard top. Maybe a tuffy shed in the back yard or something. Then you could build the X up any way you want it. If you definately could not find anyplace to store it......then maybe the Rubi would be the way to go. Especialy if you don't plan on allot of mods.
Tough call.....good luck, either way you'll have a JK

Even if you have nowhere to store it at your residence, could you find a buddy who would keep it for you for a few months over the summer? MAybe mom or dad? How much would a small storage facility charge?
IMO you want the hardtop in the snow. I know in MI what winter is like and I assume that NY is no different. Maybe even harsher.
GET THE HARDTOP! Why wait so long for another order. Get your X and enjoy it!

I have to agree with everyone else. Stick with the order you already have coming. With the freedom top panels out and the doors off, it's still a very open air feeling. Not to mention the X is very capable off road. Toss the soft top in the closet until you find a place to store the hard top. That's exactly what I'm doing for now.
Get the Rubi.
You know you want it, and you don't want to be second guessing it every time you look at it. Plus, the soft top is very nice and convenient, especially in the 2 door. I would really think about hard doors, and getting the half doors aftermarket, but that's just me.

I second the "Get the Rubi" motion! You'll be paying on this vehicle for a looooong time, might as well get the one you really want! I'd hate to see you on the site a few months from now asking if you should trade in the X and get a Rubi. And asking everyone you know for a storage spot for a hardtop will be irritating -- you may end up selling it to avoid the hassle.
I did the same cost analysis you're doing -- a "basic" Rubi isn't much more than a "loaded" X. Once I saw/drove the half door Rubi, it was over for me. If you're not that interested in building up an X (I wasn't either), the Rubi is the right choice. Oh, and you'll be able to join the half door cult.
Please note, my opinion is completely biased by my choice of JK and the fact that temperatures below freezing don't happen much around here.

If you live in an area with a real winter, like I do, then will will really wish you had a hartop.
You will use you hardtop more than your soft top. IMO
I understand you don't have a storage place for the hardtop but you could leave it on and live without the softtop.
Winter is harsh with a softtop. You can always femove the front pannels and it really is much easier than messing with a softtop.

What's important is that you figure out what you really want. At first don't worry about where you'll store the hardtop, because you can figure that out later. I'd say that if you're thinking about cancelling and ordering a Rubicon then there are other lingering doubts. So sort that out first.
Also the soft top works fine in the winter. The heaters in our Jeeps are awesome. I had a soft top on my TJ when I lived in Minnesota -- enough said. I also can say that I love my 2 half door Rubicon.
