Default Possible Cure?

I know this topic has been covered but I wanted to share my experience. I too have been plagued by the "squeek" that has everyone perplexed. I also took my Jeep to the dealer and explained to the mechanic what has been discussed on this site. I had him ride with me and he said the sound is NOT the pinion bearing, seal or anything related to the axle. Its the factory brake pads and rotors can not take the heat. The heat and stress are glazing and the pads- also causing run-out in the rotors. So I scheduled an appointment with my dealer to turn the rotors and replace the pads in a couple of days, UNTIL THEY OR SOMEONE ELSE OFFERS A CERAMIC PAD SET. I was supposed to take the Jeep in for this work, but when they realized I was going to be just over 12k miles the day I would be bringing it in, they suddenly did not want to honor the job, even though I documented the problem before 12k. Thank you for nothing AIRPARK JEEP SCOTTSDALE AZ! I do thank Tom, the mechanic for willing to do what ever it would take to fix it. To the rest of the service department I think they should take a class in customer service. After spending over 75k on Jeeps this year my wife and I will go elsewhere for our service. Last time I took my Jeep there for a computer flash recall and a defective batter they dripped acid on my fender causing $370.00 damage- thought I would give them a chance to redeem themselves. Guess not. Back to the squeek- I decided to use emery cloth on the pads and scuff the rotors to see if I was on the right path. Results were impressive, much less noise but the more driving I did the noise is starting to get louder. The only possible soloution is to wait for aftermarket ceramic pads and possible turning the factory rotors or install slotted/ crossdrilled ones. EBC a aftermarket pad company said they have theirs coming from England in about a month- until then ear plugs and searching the yellow pages for a new dealership that truley wants my business!

Have you tried Superstition Springs Jeep, near the mall? I'm waiting for my JK to come in from them, so no expierience with the service department yet, but I usually get better service from the mid to smaller size dealers. There's also going to be a new dealer at 202 (San Tan) & Val Vista, there's a new Auotoplex there, not sure when it's opening though.

I think I'll just do the work myself. They admitted that there is a problem on some of the Cherokees and Commanders re: bad brake pads and even have a up-graded pad because of noise. No TSB on ours yet I guess. The mechanic also informed me that the service advisors are told not to menton that they have to fix even brake pads etc if it is under 12k. I did try to first purchase from them on my wifes's Cherokee but got a better deal from the sales manager @ AIRPARK. Too bad their service advisors do not understand customer service. I thought I would get better service from the dealer I purchased from - guess not.

Does your squeek occur when on the brakes? Or when off the brakes? Mine was squeeking on the left rear when going straight or left, but not while turning right. Turns out that there was enough deflection to cause the inside brake pad to move a little on the caliper causing the squeek. Some of that brake squeal stuff smeared on the pad contact points took care of it. I could see where there had been some wear ot the metal contact points.

Not sure I understand you properly? Are you talking about the anti- sqweek stuff usually applied to the pad back side? The factory pads have a thin black epoxy like substance painted on the back side. I have the noise usually in warm weather,I live in the Phoenix area- so thats 11 months of the year, and it come and goes. It does tend to stop when I brake. The test i did this weekend convinced me that the rotors probably can not handle the heat and the 35s. I will probably put on ceramics and turn the rotors- until there is a slotted rotor available.
