Anyone ever installed a winch on the back of their Jeep?

That not a stupid question. A lot of people wear by it. There is a thread where a guy did this on his jk. One day when I have my jk built out the way I want it there will be a rear winch. gooooogle rear winch pics.

If you are 4 wheeling by yourself, a rear mounted winch could very well be more useful since it can pull you back out of something when you can make no more forward progress. A winch in front pulling you even deeper into the mud isn't worth much.

One interesting option is to have a receiver hitch installed on the front bumper and then use a "portable" winch which can be attached to either end of the vehicle. It has its drawbacks too, but is something I am considering. . .

i saw a 79 cj-7 with that set-up. it was sweet.

I've seen numerous examples of the rear mount winch and think it is a cool idea.

Definately not stupid!!

Warn makes a multi mount kit for ATVs'. Great idea especially if you are alone in the woods (I found that out the hard way once and find someone to go with)
