Default Prices too high

You know you look at some of the prices for parts. You just about fall over. I think i should get rid of my JK and buy a TJ. For example price a drive shaft from the same company for a JK is around 500 bones and for a TJ 250 It's about half price. I know someone will say well you get new yokes with them to. If a yoke cost $200 then it better be made out of gold and a withstand anything i throw at it. Some might say because there new.(JK's) I don't think that is it either.

Then some company's have package deals which are nice. They add it up for you and say that's a package deal. (at full price) A good deal is if i buy a lift, tires, and rims I get a discount That atleast cuts 10-20% off of it.(or more) Not alot but it's something.

Needed to get that off my chest looking around for different stuff and just get mad because i see the TJ parts beside the JK parts and the same thing is about half price or it's more but you get alot more with there kits. (for a TJ)

Well i thought i would fell better but I really don't so I guess I'll just do the JEEP thing and

Just Empty Every Pocket
JEEP got to love it

yeah, the JK parts are newer, but if you watch the catalogs all the prices are rising, TJ prices aren't rising as fast some not at all, and some even decreasing in price, pretty much everything in the quadratech magazine for JK's for gone up a few bucks every issue. It just sucks because while it takes you time to save up for something, by the time you have enough for what you want, it cost more then you first saw it for, kind of discouraging. maybe these prices will stop rising soon and help people move products more easily.

I hear ya, and you are not alone!

I've been looking for JK Factory Half-Doors for a few months now. Cheapest I could find on Craigslist, were $2,500 for the two fronts. TJ's had them listed all over the place for $450 average. I ended up with the Bestop Element Half-Doors with the Enclosure Kit, painted to match my Yellow X.

Cheers!

Supply and demand, I guess.

No more TJ's are being made and sold, so there will be less and less of those getting mod parts, and more and more JK's getting them.

It does suck! I've been looking for a roof rack and all are $1000 plus, but you can find one for a tj for $500 easily! I think the more expensive initial price tag means a more well lined pocket buyer, who they think can and will spend more on aftermarket stuff. Damn mall crawlers, it has to be their fault somehow!

I know that I have heard from a few companies that it is all about pricing the products at what the market will bear. JK owners tend to have less of an issue spending the money than a TJ owner, so they have a higher markup on JK items. Also many of the prices of materials have gone up over time, and rather than raise the price on the TJ parts to compensate (since it is very noticable when the same item gets a price increase) they are offsetting some of these costs with the JK items.

Probably not fair, but if soemone can sell the same item for a JK and a TJ and the JK owner will pay double then they will be more than happy to charge them double.

I saw the title of this thread and thought it would be about what Chrysler is charging for the vehicles and how stubborn they're being on pricing.

It's nice to know the gouging doesn't stop when you drive of the lot...

It's called the Premium for the "Latest and Greatest".

The driveshaft example makes sense though. Doesn't the 3.8L produce twice the HP as the 4.0L? Or is it half the HP for twice the gas?

it is pretty excessive. Bumpers are through the roof. Skids are crazy priced. Only things with a reasonable price tag are usually the ones that dont say "for wrangler jk" in the description. Which is okay, it just motivates my ingenuity and desire to make my own stuff...

Keep in mind you are also paying for the cost of materials at the time of production. If the TJ parts were made when steel was cheaper, and the JK was more expensive (as most raw materials have gone up), then you would see the difference.

Oddly enough, when looking at some computer memory, older, outdated chips can be more expensive than better, newer chips (not the real high end), because they were more expensive to make at the time.

Hell, my mini wood lathe has gone up substantially due to material prices (heavy for it's size).
