Problems with the new JK
...
I pulled over to make sure he was ok, turned out to be a father with two toddlers, coming home from christmas shopping. He was very shaken up and was very frightened.
Now even though he was going to fast and had he rear ended me It would have legally been his fault. There is no doubt in my mind that the jeep would have been to blame.

He shouldn't have been driving in such a manner that caused him to fish tail while merging...even more so with toddlers in the car. His concern is not how fast can he get into traffic, it's how to get his kids and himself home safely. Obviously, he didn't know.
I often wonder how many of these issues are actually caused by the seat to steering wheel interface. That's where I would start looking.
First off; I would not listen to anybody who calls some one retarded, that doesn’t even know how to spell retarded… If you are going to insult the mentally challenged; than at the very least you could spell it correctly! Are your shifting skills anything like your grammar skills? If so, this would explain a lot.
Maybe depress the clutch and hit the shoulder of the road quicker if this happens again! It would suck getting tagged in the rear from a speeding vehicle; glad he was able to avoid you and nobody was injured.
Mart0592, it sounds like others have had similar issues and were able to get it corrected. If there is a mechanical issue with your 6 speed, hopefully they’re able to duplicate the problem during the test drive. What I was trying to suggest is that you give your JK and yourself a chance to get to know one another before allowing a mechanic to dismantle your new JK.
It has been my experience that no two manuals shift the same; my current vehicle is a 5 speed, 3rd and 5th gear would cause anyone fits until they get a feel for it. It will allow you to shift straight into 3rd and 5th and will hold the gear until there is a change in throttle input, at which time it will pop out. It will not fully engage the gears unless you shift directly into the gate, and then apply light pressure to the left in 3rd, and to the right in 5th, and then it will slide right in. It is quirky to say the least; and this is a vehicle that just turned 7k on the odometer.
Regardless, let us know how it turns out for you.

Wow,
boy am I not shocked at all that you got so defensive.
A) I was not insulting mentally handicap people, but im not suprised you would try and put that on me for calling you out on a extremly dumb comment. Next time you try and give advice you really should make sure you know what your talking about
b) and im not going to lie I am thinking that you might actually be slightly mentally challenged if you really think that the jeep popping out of gear had anything to do with my shifting skills, especially when it had been in 4th for over 400 m and I was not shifting at all.
Bottom line is that a transmission that pops out randomly is not safe, and it should be fixed. No amount of finness or wiggling will help it. But hey if that is what works for you good luck with that.

First off; you’re giving yourself way too much credit if you think for a moment I would allow myself to truly be insulted by the likes of you. I actually found your ignorant comment about my advice to be amusing at best; people that go around calling others opinions retarded tend to be of the know it all variety, and are typically not worthy of a response. In fact, most people find it less painful to just beat their head into a brick wall than to engage in pissing match with a person of your mindset. But, I hadn’t had my morning coffee when I read your post, and perhaps that is the reason I was compelled to respond to your comments. I can see now I should have just let it slide; shame on me!
And as for you thinking I might be “slightly mentally challenged” you might want to refresh your memory as to your first post. Your story seems to have changed slightly from your first post; either that or I am missing something, and I apologize in advance if I am…
You said in your first post. "I was driving home after work and I was merging onto a busy road. this merge happens to be on a good little hill. The road is extremly high speed, and in order to merge onto it you need to have a bit of speed up. “”I put the jeep in 4th gear””and had more than enough speed, room, and time to merge into traffic safely like I have done everyday, a million times over the past 2 years. Except this time right when I got into the lane the gear pops out, the jeep immediatly jolts and slows down."
Now you’re saying. ”and im not going to lie I am thinking that you might actually be slightly mentally challenged “”if you really think that the jeep popping out of gear had anything to do with my shifting skills, especially when it had been in 4th for over 400 m and I was not shifting at all””
Now, is that 400 meters, or 400 miles in 4th gear. If you can clarify this for me, it might help me to understand.
I agree with you that a transmission that randomly slips out of gear is indeed unsafe, and if due to a mechanical problem it needs to be corrected. But you shouldn’t completely discount human error as a possibility. I am not aware of the experience level of the operator in this case; are you? He sounds sure of himself, so he might have a good deal of experience! Or perhaps the other manuals he has driven had short precise throws, unlike the JK 6spd.
Regardless, he was looking for opinions and you can rest assured that he received at least two. And out of respect for his thread, I am not going to respond any further for fear of it getting locked down, that would be of no use for anyone…
If you’re ever in my neck of the woods feel free to look me up; I will spring for a couple of cold ones and we can continue our conversation, and perhaps I could teach you how to shift that slush box.
Just kidding, no hard feelings ok…
Well, maybe I can be helpfull. Mine did the same thing after I had the TSB for the through out bearing completed. Mine was the inner shift boot. The plastic snaps were broke off and the mechanic tried to glue it back on with some black silicon. It didn't work. Anyways, put it in 2nd gear and pull like a mother to get the shift knob off, work the outer boot off without breaking it and look and see if the inner boot is on properly. You will definatley know if it is wrong, it only goes on one way. Once I put the the new inner shift boot on it hasn't happened again. I also put synthetic fluid in the trans, now it shifts much smoother. Good luck.
