Default Problems with your winch

I'd like to know what kind of problems you have had with your winch or what options you wish your winch had. ( not a opinion of who makes the best.)

I can get my controller plugged in upside down and it won't work that way. Leads to a few heartstopping seconds until you realize the controller is in wrong.

I wish I had the new solid state tech from mile marker. Controllable line speed and no more solenoids! It will be my next winch.

New winch, just opened yesterday and installed today. I hit the go button and it was no go. Done some quick checking with the meter and ended up in the box and found a wire was loose. Put the wire on and very happy with it.

Had one 6 months old that motor crapped out and a company, not to name the initials WARN or anything, did not honor the warranty due to my dad had bought the winch and sent in the paperwork, per them I was the second owner of it. Well duh he bought it for me. I don't like BS and companies like that.

Other than that, 0 problems with mine and this one will make #5.

My neighbor had problems and we adapted his over to Ford starter solenoids. They still break but they are easy to find anywhere, and are mounted so they can be changed in 5 minutes. He keeps a couple with him.

Well that makes up my mind. I was deciding between a mile marker and a Warn.

Mile Marker it is.

Too bad that happened to you. Warns don't break very often, and there has been at least one person who bought one that was several years old second-hand and contacted Warn to replace a defective part. They sent it to him free. Others have rarely reported problems and Warn has over-nighted the part to them under warranty. Based on my time reading about Warn winch warranty support on this forum over the last four years, your experience is a rare exception.

Enjoy those Mile Markers. For me, I have never had a problem with Warn and they have always had a very helpful customer service group. The only issue I have with them is they will not offer a winch with synthetic rope, or sell the winch bare spool so you can put your own on. I have thrown away more brand new wire ropes and roller fairleads than I care to remember.
That said, when you are in a fix, you can always rely on their winch working as it was meant too.

My only winch problem was operator error. I looked away for a second while spooling in, and let the controller cable get sucked between the rollers. Sparks first, then came the smoke.
