Default Proper way to switch to 4H?

In my owners manual it says that you can switch into 4H when the vehicle is either stopped or in motion with all the tires rolling at the same speed. When the vehicle is stopped, it doesn't specify if I should have it in "P" park or "D" drive when I switch it to 4H. Can I do it either way, or is there particular order in which to do this?

If your slipping or losing traction shifting into 4hi can sound a little rough. I try to do it right before coming to a complete stop or just rolling about ten to twenty MPH.

I do it in Drive. I don't think it matters if you're rolling or stopped. I've done from a dead stop and as fast as 65 kmh. No problems have shown up and there've been no funny noises. Just make sure all your wheels are going at the same speed. Don't engage if they're spinning or you're cornering.

Low speed in 'drive' pull firmly back, done. I've driven many 4WD's in my time, this command trac is by far the smoothest I've every used. Like a hot knife through butter

I do mine stopped, going through town as needed, or on the highway at 50mph as needed. I think the manual says not to exceed 55mph or something like that. Just pull the lever, as long as your tires are not spinning you'll be fine.
