pull pal
I think a quality fluke style boat anchor would work as long as it was big enough and you burried it well. Only downside is they are fairly heavy and take up some space but if you have no other option I think it would be fine.

Well, digging the hole to bury the spare can take a LONG time. The Pull-Pal digs its own hole. It is not something I would routinely carry with me for the terrain here, but in sand dunes and sandy desert conditions, the Pull-Pal would be standard equipment for me.
I have a marine anchor that I use - it's called a "sting ray"

i was thinkinking if a self-digging boat anchor would work? or a farm plow spade welded with some 1/2 3/4 flat stock
( would it dig to deep? )
