nothing says "professional" like clumps of mud in your hair and all over your clothes...
This post (from another thread) reminded me of what happened to me a few days ago that I never shared on the forum.

I am a CPA and tax manager and dress in a suit every day to go to work. I guess accountants have earned the reputation of being ultra-conservative and I certainly fit the bill (in most cases).

Well, this woman in her 30s with a ~6-year-old boy were in a Miata with the top down and we both pull up to a red light. I was dressed in a shirt and tie, but I had my doors and top off and the Jeep was covered in NC red mud from a weekend excursion. Like many others, she leaned over and asked me what my license tag meant, since it simply reads, "TAX". I told her that I was a CPA and tax accountant. The look on her face told me she was in disbelief and as the light turned green and we both took off, she yelled, "Could have fooled me!"

I thought it was hilarious.

I guess you had to be there.

Same with me, I am an Investment Banking Analyst and have been told that I should not be driving a "truck" wearing a suit.

I don't wear a suit, but do wear dress pants and button down shirt most days and I get some strange looks driving around with the doors off.

Same here.

I heard a guy say something to the tune of "waste of a Rubicon" when I was at the gas station. Being the not-so-shy type I confronted him... I explained that I wheel on average twice a week. (we have tons of mountain fire and logging roads) I then educated him by showing the rock rash all over my tires. It's a simple indicator that reveals mall cruisers vs trail rigs.

That's funny! Being married to a CPA, I can relate. She tells me that I can't tell anyone that she wheels with me on weekends! Hell, we are all family here!

Ah yes the rock rash, works every time. Of course I just got a new set of wheels that have yet to get much of anything, but on the flip side I now have some MT's on there.

So, exactly where is the "manual" that shows what type of vehicle you're supposed to drive for various careers?
