Default Pulling a car hauler.

Anybody use their jeep to pull a car hauler with a car on it? I've got a 66 mustang and a 18 car hauler and we're headed to the coast this October just wondering how it will do.

I towed about 1,500 pounds of dirt on a utility trailer for 15 minutes and it was not the best. Too much load for a JK.

You would have better luck pulling the Jeep with the Mustang.

That's what I figured but my first jk had 3.73. I was hoping the newer ones would do better.

That's a lot of trailer for the jeep. I've pulled a 6x12 enclosed (total weight of 3k lbs) and it was painful. I've also pulled a 5x12 flat with 2 atv's (total weight of 2k lbs) and it was fine- pulled fine at 80mph until I hit some wind.

Trailer brakes are essential if you do it though, it's a lot of weight for the jeep to stop.

Be sure and consult your manual regarding towing. The JKU will definitely tow better and straighter than the short wheel base. It doesn't matter how much power you have, or what gearing - the real limiting factor is having rear coil springs. Definitely more rear end and trailer sway. Be careful !!

Frontal area of the trailer is what really kills towing with a JK.

Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

I have a '12 JKUR. Pulled a 3k# trailer before and after lift and tires. Pulled it ok on level ground, but hills were a challenge as well as stopping. I wouldn't attempt a car hauler with a car on it.

The question I'd ask myself.

Who's going to be in control of the setup during an evasive maneuver... truck or trailer?

The towing capacity listed on your door jam would be the first indicator.
