Default question about tire balancing (for specialists)

Here are 3 questions for tire specialists

I went to the garage today to install my 4 brand new 33" km2's

The mechanic told me that he can't balance one of the 4 tires. It's just a little bit unbalanced.

I drove at 110 km/h (70 m/h) and there is no wobble.
My questions:

1: Even if I don't feel wobble, I wonder if the unbalanced tire can damage the wheel bearings?

2: Can I get a refund from BF Goodrich if the tire can't be balanced perfectly?

3: The mechanic told me that more I will drive, more the tire will be balanced
Is is true?

Is he using a road force ballancer. if not take it somewhere that has one. the road force ballancer will tell you exactly where to match the rim to the tire to get the best result. yes it means breaking the beads again turning the tire on the rim to the desired location then reinflate. if it still won't ballance it can measure the rim and tell you if its the rim or the tire that is the problem(with print out).

talk to BFG about a return and they will want proof. (i.e. the print out)

you may not feel the unballance but it is still there, I had buddy put 44" tires on and not ballance any tires and it drove fine down the highway. and depending how out of ballance, it might cause damage but its to hard to prove because its long term stuff and the bigger the tire the more the rubber soaks it up.

hope this helps

Thanks for the info

How about the third question? The mechanic told me that more I will drive, more the tire will be balanced
Is is true?

He told me that after 5000 km, the wear will make the tire balanced. Truth or BS ?

have you ever seen a tire with wavy or cupped tread that doesn't have suspension or alignment issues? if the tire is for some reason out of balance, i believe the tread will start to wear funny. i have never heard of a tire "balancing itself." I asked a couple of my other buddies who are/were auto techs and they said the same thing.

Default Balance

You could also try Equal which a lot of trucks use to bbalance their tires. It is a powder that is put inside and when driven fills towards the imbalance.

Equal??? There is moisture inside the tire and this would gum up and make balancing worse. I would NEVER do that. There are bb's that are made for this and work much better.

It COULD be true that a tire that is worn a little uneven could be switched to the rear of the vehicle and flattened out. It depends on WHY your tire cant be balanced. Either the rim or tire is way out of balance itself. I have to wonder if the guy was just too lazy to spin the tire to a different orientation on the rim. This usually works...

Equal dosent gum up in water we run it in our trucks at work and the drivers love it. Never have to rebalence the tire for the life of the tire.

im having the same issues with my GY Duratracs,
no one has suggested re seating the tire and ive been to 4 shops trying to get the darn things to balance. they are only 33's not like it could be that hard.
perhaps the re installing the tires is the way to go. ill be trying that this week.
Have also had the suggestion of the bb's in the tires.
anyone done this on anything other that a big rig?

mine certainly looks like a hack job. looks like each shop has just added wgt to solve the issue non have which have worked. just changed the shake from 110km to 80 kms. driving me nuts. $300 in balancing later still same problems.
at this point i dont care how much it costs to fix it, just want it fixed.

you mention that the road force may not have spec for all tires. if i read this correctly this is not an issue??

i have a local shop that has the top of the line road force machine (google it to find one close to you). Problem is its at Canadian Tire. In Canada we nic name Canadian Tire Crappy tire. Im not sure I want a minimum wager balancing my tires.

Any Canadians have experence here? Ill speak to the service Manager first. Anything I should be demanding before they start? I assume that they should be taking off all existing weights before they start Ill make sure of that anything else i should be asking before they take me for more $$.

thanks in advance and sorry if i have hi jacked the thread.
