question about tires
Why is the Baja claw 33X12.50R17LT $290 and the 35X12.50R15LT is $258??? Is the price mostly based on rim size?? why have a 33 for 290 when you can have a 35 for 258? marketing skeem?
It is because of the rim size. Larger rims like 17" and up will cost you more for tires, because the design is slightly tweaked, they have less side-wall than tires on smaller rims, so they use more kevlar and other materials, making them ride a little harder, and tires made for smaller rims have more side-wall which means more rubber and not as much of anything else needed, they also flex more when offroading and rock-crawling. Never go bigger than 2" of the factory rim size, the tires will get pounded like hell. That being said, you can go very far down on the rims size from stock to get a cheaper tire. I know a couple of buddies rockin' 12-14" rims on their jeeps...

I don't think I've even seen tires over about 28" in a 14" or smaller wheel size.

Years back, a huge percentage of light trucks had 15" wheels. Tires in 16"+ were more expensive back then too.
Sometimes a price can be related to competition or lack of for a particular tire size. My wife's mini had a particular 15" tire size. There were only two or three all season tires available for that on tire rack. Per tire racks recommendation I slightly bumped up he tire width. After doing that there were about 50 tires available. I found better prices because Of more competition at that size.
