Default Rant and hood recall

Just a few second rant....I just got my hard top installed today after 6 hours at the dealer....6...freakin....hours. Turns out they had to wire it and compute it etc...

oh well....although now that it is on...is wrong for me to want my soft top back on? I mean I like the decreased wind noise on teh highway but the damn thing retains heat like no other...(great for the winter)...And I don't think I can get the soft top out of the back of the hardtop....without removing the hard top? any ideas?

Second...The dealer told me today (i also got a letter) that DC has recalled Jeep hood latches and they need to be replaced....just a heads up! However I did have a question for you guys....I am not having any probs with the hood or latches...should I worry about this at all? Or just get it done as preventation?

Got news for ya you ain't gonna like....you have to take the soft top out of there. Can't have it in there with the hard top or you can/will damage it. And the hard top has to come off to get the soft top off. Get a buddy and you can have it all squared away in less then an hour

The hood latch recal I think is for the hood dance thing. Supposed to negate the effects of big rigs and strong crosswinds making the hood jump. If you have time let them put them on.

climber- only once - way back in 12/06 i was driving a long road from (2lanes) from idaho to vegas.....every truck that passed in the opposite direction had me freaking out- my tj never done that and was worried that the hood was going to fly away.

maybe its being a little higher now but once i went up on 35's the hood seemed to settle down-

but i am def' going to be checking that out when i roll in for a oil change!

No it doesn't. I helped my sister remove her soft top and never took the hard top off. It was not easy, however.

no it not wrong to want to put the soft top up. personally i have both the soft and hard and i like my soft more. i feel like it give more head room, and i can put it up and down with out help.

then again i do like the hard top cause nobody can cut through and steal shit. and i can just take the t-tops off if i want.

second i think soft tops look more jeep like...not that it matters, but everyone says it looks like an h3 with my hardtop. lol figure that.

To the '09 latches comment.

If you end up noticing your hood bouncing at all, take the spring off. It's a better solution. The '09 recall latches aren't fixing the problem.

You certainly can have the soft top under an installed hard top. Jeep ships the dual top option that way. I ran with my soft top folded up in the factory bag/cover under my hard top all winter. (Never had a chance to get the hard top off last year because I bought it in late fall.)

The soft top wasn't hurt in the least by the six+ months it spent in the bag under the hardtop... Keep the "temporary" bag/cover when you pop up the soft top you can re-use it again when you switch back to the hardtop.

I ran my TJ that way for two winters as well. Never had an issue with leaving the soft top folded up in the bag under the hardtop. Just wash it well and apply a protectant before you fold it up and stick it back in the bag for the storage season. Roll up the windows in a cloverleaf cover and toss them in a closet. (standing on end, otherwise they might flatten out and crease over the winter).

Yeah, the soft top gets in the way when you're loading stuff in through the hard top's back but other than that, no biggie.
