3.73 Gears 5-speed. Towed the trailer from MA to MN this past weekend.
No issue just horrible gas mileage. Pulling through the hills of upstate NY, in the rain, we got 11.2 mpg. However the flat land of the Midwest was around 14.8 mpg.

Towed our pop-up behind our stock auto JKU Rubi. Weighs about 2200 lbs. loaded. It is no fun towing on flat lands in third gear. Any hill at all it downshifts to second, now the engine is turning 4000 rpm. Forget about doing the speed limit in the mountains here in Colorado. I was down to 35 mph in first- just under red line. Speed limit was 60 mph. Based on my experience, I would say the max limit would be 1500-1600 lbs. I'm guessing people who tow 3500 lbs with their JKs aren't driving through Colorado.

Funny how some people say they tow cars and 10,000 pounds with no issues.
I agree with the other side...
In my opinion, the JK can barely get out of its own way as it is. Add a kubota and rototiller on the trailer (which is less than 2500 pounds) and you best blee that you will pulling a Fred Flintstone.

I disagree, I know what they are rated for and the reasons for the ratings, but as far as the jk having a hard time to pull their own weight well i think they have ample power. i make hay every year and use the jk to pull the wagons out of the fields and to the barn, some pretty good hills and no problems. My 08 X had the 3.21 gears and regularly towed 10000 lbs. obviously I would not be foolish enough to do it on the hiway. got a rubicon now and really don't notice much difference between the 3.21 and the 4.10. :dont<know2:

I tow a trailer with mine all the time. Trailer weighs between 3000 and 3500 depending on if I fill with water or not. Wouldn't tow it thru the mountains too much. Doesnt like the hills alot but tows it just fine. Just dont exceed hitch weight and use weight distribution hitch aswell. I'll post a pic later. Can't do it on iPad lol

I pulled a golf cart on a small atv trailer from OKC to AR and it was easily the most miserable experience I have had towing. Jeep is a stock rubi UL auto, that could not maintain 70mph unless the OD was off and it was turning 3000+ rpms. It was constantly downshifting to 2nd and we averaged a whopping 9mpgs. Our TBSS will pull the same load without downshifting up anygrade on that route and avg 15mpg at 75. I wont make that mistake twice.
