I prefer D-rings, but I've used my hooks that came stock with my rubicon as well (and as Mark Doiron will remind everyone) and they worked fine.

As far as them getting stolen, if they do thats pretty retarded thing to steal. And they aren't expensive to replace if they do - but I'm not going to spend extra on a lock. D rings only cost 10 bucks.

I never leave my d-rings out. The kids around here are a bunch of theives. They keep stealing the clips I put on my back gate so the dogs wont lift the handle. They also love to steal chrome valve stem caps and put them on their bikes....

I bought a good locking pin and a 2" - 17,000 lb snatch strap. I just slide the loop into the hitch hole (that sounds funny) and secure it with the locking pin. Haven't had a problem yet.

I thought about doing that too. I don't see how it would be any different then using a D-ring on the back. Im glad to hear it works.

I use a hook, but I keep the hook on the upside, prevents it from catching or a strap from falling off.

I am ordering a d-ring for the hitch receiver, but now I am wondering if I should switch out the front tow hooks for d-rings.

Any thoughts?

I think your tow hooks will be fine most of the time. You would have to be getting pulled from pretty far above you to have a strap come off of the hook. Maybe you could get stuck going into a big drop off & have someone pulling you from the high side & have it come loose. If you want the best possible solution regardless of angles, then d rings are the way to go. I have no doubts about the strength of the factory hooks. I was yanked out hard enough by a friend that I was expecting the hook to bend or the strap to break. Neither happened. I'll wait for D's untill the replacement bumper mod.

Where did you find these front D rings?

To my knowlege there arent any for a stock bumper, (not directly on the stock bumper anyhow, tons of options for aftermarket depending on your brand bumper)
but i have seen people with the AEV mounts and D-rings on those, they mount below the bumper. http://www.quadratec.com/products/pr...50-add5-th.jpg
