Default Remove The Spare Tire For Good?

Ok -- The spare tire on my JK...

-->It's heavy -- 1/10 mpg hit for it to be there??
-->It hits my "tray-rack" I have in the trailer hitch so I can't open the gate

I've only ONCE used a spare (I'm 37 years old) due to a flat tire... That's once every 20+ years!

Has anyone taken theirs off? Any pics? Does the Jeep look dumb -- or better with it off??

Thanks!

Insurance policy? As soon as you don't have it, you'll end up needing it. I'd keep the AAA card handy! Good luck with taking it off. I'd think you are asking for trouble...

I'd rather have the peace of mind knowing that I have a spare than save 1/10 mgh (if it's even that much).

Im going to 38's. gonna go spareless. I have never needed my spare in 22yrs of driving. Either limp to sevice station, plugged it or fix-a-flat. Plan to smooth out tailgate also.

21 years of driving, never had a flat tire (although having said that i bet i get one tomorrow). i haven't had a spare on for 2 months because they shorted me the 5th and i'm still waiting for it to come in. from an appearence perspective, i'm good with it. there is someone on here that smoothed out the tailgate and i thought that looked great. i get tons of "nice wheels, where's your spare?" but if that's the look you are going for and don't mind dealing with the ramifications, i say do it up.

I actually wheel my Jeep. I have destroyed two tires in a single day. I would never consider traveling with out a fullsize spare on an offroad vehicle.

On the street I might get a flat every year or two on my work truck. I'm an area manager for a builder so I'm constantly around construction sites.

Man, some of you guys are frickin lucky! I have only been driving for close to 9 years and I have had tons of flats! I have ripped the valve stem off of 2 tires on my old F-150 while wheeling in a river bed(33" TSL's"), the entire side wall of one of my tires blew of of my Landy 2 days after I purchased it, I have blown the bead on a tire while rock crawling my Scout II, etc.....etc.....

Unless you drive only on pavement and get new tires when ever you only have an 1/8" of tread left, and check your air pressure periodically then keeping the spare would be wise to do! Don't lie to your self, if any of the above is questionable, then keep the spare!

I've used mine on the JK already. I destroyed a valve stem at Grayrock last October and had to put the spare on to drive the 150 miles home. Had to use one on my TJ when I ripped a hole in the sidewall on a root (I won't have BFG AT's again). I like the way a full size spare looks on the back too.

Maybe I'm unlucky, but I've had a few flats before, even on my TJ so I will always carry the spare.
