Default Resale Value

So will the resale value of our 2011 and older JK's drop once the "new" 2012 JK's start rolling out of the dealerships?

I doubt it will have much affect on the resale value. If gas prices go back down as predicted, resale might even improve a little. The 2012 is just an engine change and that doesn't affect resale very much. People that want a new Jeep will still want a new Jeep. People looking to save money are not going to wait 3 years for the new Jeeps to hit the used market. IMO and I'm usually FOS!!

Agreed. Nothing holds value like a wrangler

They seem to drop in value up to about 3 years old, then level out and hold good value from that point. I think what makes the value stay is two-fold; 1) they are a nitch vehicle and have a great following, and 2) the new models get more expensive each year, but keep a very similar design - IMHO.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the residual value drop. I don't hope for it, but one thing the wrangler has always had is a combination of high new cost and being relatively rare. They are still expensive new, but they are not nearly as rare anymore. There will be way more used wranglers on the market in the future, driving the value of all of them down. But still probably a better bet than most cars.

I got a great trade-in price for my 2009 JK (towards the purchase of my '12). I've owned many a BMW, Lexus and Benz and never had better resale value than my Jeep.

I wouldn't worry till 2013 with resale value, reserch shows Jeep's have had several issues when it comes to changes in the first year. The 1997 TJ was/is one of the unreliable vehicals ever build. 2007 JK have been plagued with many electrical issues and tranny issues. I will never buy a 1st year change of a jeep again.

If every vehicle was as reliable as my 07 JK has been, I would make sure to always buy a first year model.

I Have been looking around for a gently used Wrangler for a friend. The resale prices on Wranglers is just crazy.
