Default rocks in the winshield

I'm new to the forum and not sure how to look up previus subjects. Has anyone found a bug/rock deflector for the hood that works at keeping rocks from hitting the the windshield. In less then 2 months I've got to nasty rock chips in the windshield. Looking for something to save the windshield.

I think the way they are suppose to work is to deflect the wind up over the windshield so it will carry the rocks over. I don't think it can stop all rocks but with such a straight up windshield it might help. Or i guess i could just move my problem up in my line of sight. That's why I am asking. They cost $60+ and that's allot to spend for a plastic piece that does nothing.

Corpus is ok, the sand, but we are still limited on what sand we can drive in. Weather wise it is usually to damn hot to have the top off. I was up in Amarillo last weekend and weather wise that was great. 80 with 0% humidity.

I replaced my windshield too after 5000 miles. I dont think a deflector would work with rocks. I found that cleaning the stuck rocks out of tires before getting on pavement works great and I havent had any chips since. Just takes a sec to walk around Jeep and flick them out. Good luck

Are you fucking serious? How the hell do you chip your own windshield? Now if you could go pluck the rocks from everyone elses tires we would be good.

If you have mud tires on, the rocks get stuck in tread and when you get up to speed they get thrown in front of your Jeep and bounce back into your windshield. This will happen for a while till your tires get worn down some. If you have street tires on, I dont know what to tell you.I guess good luck. You do your own flicking lazy.

I've owned 6 Jeeps over the years. Flat windshield will collect rocks. I have never been hit by a rock other than the ones thrown from the vehicle infront of me. Ice sheets from other vehicles are also a big contributor. I usually do not replace a windshield until the crack or chip starts to spread. I also try and wait until I've gathered several chips. That flat windshield is what gives the Jeep exceptional vision. It's also a chip waiting to happen and a fact of life with Jeeps.

Rocks fly forward at least as often as they fly backwards and yes you are throwing as many rocks at yourself as anyone else. The hardest rock smack I've had on the windshield came when I was the only one on the road. I've had an oncoming Suburban hit me with a rock through my open side window. The only way to duck is to become a lowrider... don't you dare do that!

My reccomendation would be to get full glass coverage with your insurance, usually only costs a few bucks more a month and no deductible for it. Over the last 5 years, I've replaced 7 windshields and have not spent a penny for it besides the few extra bucks a month. In all I've spent less for the insurance than it would have cost me to replace 1 windshield.

As far as the air deflector goes, it mostly for bugs and to protect the front of your hood from stones. Rocks will usually not be deflected.
